SammyO Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Hello FOH crew! Been noticing a few of my cigars have these small spots on them and I’m getting mixed reviews from different people. Some say mold throw them away. Some say plume that’s great and some say they’re water spots. I trust the opinions of you all very much. Any feedback will be much appreciated! Thanks again, sammy
Connoisseur Kim Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 To me, it is more to typical natural spots from tobacco leaves rather than mould or plume. They are harmless like plume so you do not have to too much worry about them. Here are the tips for difference between plume and mould: If you see crystallised oil on the surface of the wrapper, then it is certainly the plume. If you see hairy things on the cigar, then it is either blue or white mould. 3
Popular Post Islandboy Posted March 24, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 24, 2019 Those are naturally occurring spots in the tobacco leaves long before the cigar was rolled. Probably caused by a long gone pest in the fields. Pretty common. Anyone telling you it's mold, or plume which is just another word for mold, is doing you a disservice. Water spots show up as greenish blemishes. So not that either. 5
CaptainQuintero Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Just a left over mark from water drops during the fermentation/drying process, completely harmless don't worry If you have a look over these https://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/search/?&q=Plume&author=El Presidente&search_and_or=or&search_in=titles Rob and gang employed some boffins to check what plume was, and it came back that every single type tested was mould, so if you ever think you've got plume, 99.9% you've just got mould: brush it off and light it up 4

Popular Post El Presidente Posted March 24, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 24, 2019 Very common. I have always told that they were water marks. Water drop on the leaf acting as a magnifying glass to light. That could all be a pile of poo but it made sense to me as all of them are round. 6
Popular Post Lotusguy Posted March 24, 2019 Popular Post Posted March 24, 2019 Small flaws in the tobacco leaf. Water spots (unfermented spots) are green. Plume is a myth to sell moldy cigars at a premium. 8
