Popular Post THEMISCHMAN
Juan Lopez No. 4 PRA JUN 10Outside temp: 66°FHumidity: 85% I love the lineup for this weekend’s review comp. All great marcas and I was torn on which one to do so I figured this would be a good opportunity to check in on these Juan Lopez Asia Pacifico’s. I really enjoy Juan Lopez as a brand. There’s this subtle zesty citrus type note that I get from them occasionally that I love. Sometimes it hits me as lemon zest and sometimes it’s similar to a Terry’s chocolate orange. On to the cigar. The wrapper has a couple minor veins and a slight tooth to it. It’s a little lumpy and a little wrinkly. Kinda like the old lady who used to live down the street when you were a kid and would yell if you went into her yard. To the nose, I get tobacco....I always get tobacco. It feels firmly, but not overly, packed. I use my v-cutter and it makes a nice clean cut. The draw is a little loose and I’m hoping this doesn’t mean that it will affect the burn or the performance of the cigar. Hopefully, the draw tightens up a little. The cold draw doesn’t present much. 1/3: On the light, it shows some toasted tobacco and a bit of coffee. There’s a slight bit of that citrus but it’s so far off I’m barely getting it. The burn is relatively straight but the ash is going limp, sort of like this cigar at this point, which is disappointing because there have been some good cigars in this box. 2/3: The body is right at medium and there’s still not much going on in the flavor department. Pretty much just generic flavors composed of coffee with cream and a vegetal grassy note on the retro. The upside is that the smoke is not bitter and it has a clean tobacco finish. The draw is getting a little better and the burn is a little wavy. Final third: Still waiting for citrus zest.... I guess it’s gonna be like my Uncle Bill, he either never shows up or shows up fashionably late. There’s a slight bit of cocoa now that’s mixing in with the creamed coffee flavor but it’s all very subtle and quite muted. Mostly, it just tastes like a Cuban cigar. That’s not a bad thing but it just doesn’t make for an exciting write up. I may be being too critical, however. Overall, the cigar wasn’t a bad experience. I’ve definitely had worse and this one was average at best. Maybe they’ve reached their peak or maybe they’re just getting started. If you have them and haven’t had one in a while pull one out and see. If you’ve never had one don’t fret because the No. 1 and No. 2’s are just as good if not better and much more wallet friendly. I’m gonna finish this off and just enjoy it for what it is.

TheMonk
Good job, and I actually agree. These are decent smokes, but far from brilliant.
David88
Great review. I bought and smoked a couple of these a few years ago and thought they were good, but was left wanting more. It's a shame they haven't really kicked on, although I'm sure people with greater experience of them will be better placed to comment on how they are developing than I am.
ohbob976
Nice review. Smoked one of these the other week and it was the absolute best tasting cigar I’ve had in the short time I’ve been smoking cigars. Hoping it wasn’t a one off type thing
