99call Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 Upmann Connie A 2017 Aroma at cold Sweet, slight cough medicine note, bit of nuttiness. 1st 3rd Real hi end tobacco, oozes class. The taste on the lips, is bitter espresso, and just buttery Rolls Royce grade tobacco. Toasted tobacco…Jeese Upmann is one of those brands whereby, the general tobacco flavour aside from everything else is just stellar. This is a wee bit stronger than the ROTTs i’ve enjoyed 2nd 3rd As this juncture the strong hay sour tannin and shortbread comes to town. A dark rye bread, and that sort of tangerine smell you get off fresh bakers yeast. I’d say these are a good 2-3 years off peaking. A real definite blast of that unusual floral caramel aroma you get from lily’s. Still nice, but goes through a 15 min closed period, just needs more time 3rd 3rd Dry mouthfeel, getting a bit tarry, least favorite third, just a generic Upmann at this point, but thats still a very good thing Conclusion Some very nice parts to this smoke, but just needs more age. I do generally prefer Mag 50s with age, but i’m yet to enjoy old Connie A’s, so hopefully this will go the same way Score 90. Lots of potential, and still a very enjoyable smoke 4
Markspring1978 Posted December 9, 2018 Posted December 9, 2018 @99call your reviews are just off the charts. At least I think they are, my palate is so unrefined, you could tell me anything, and I would dutifully nod my head in agreement. I bought a PSP box of these babies that just showed up. They are going to go hibernate for a few years. You need to plan a trip to Montana for 2022, so you can come tell me what I am supposed to be experiencing, which I’m sure will be amazing. 1

HMMMMmm? one thing is true in the cigar world, is that generally everyone is on the money, and full of shit, in equal measures. I enjoy reviewing cigars, but I'm always open to accept that many may think my thoughts are not on the money. Flavour pick ups (to me) are usually little snap shots, but I would prefer to mention them, than do what some do, and insist cigars just taste of burning tobacco. Ultimately for any cigar smoker, I think just being very adventurous with what you eat, drink, and smell is key to unlocking what you may or may not notice. I was brought up in a very food obsessed household, and worked as a chef for about 9 or so years. If i'd not been exposed to that, I wouldn't have a clue what I was tasting. Out of the kaleidoscope of what FOH members all pick up, I think Rob does a brilliant job of just trying to condense the description of the blends in 2 or 3 undisputeable flavours. To me this is the most useful resource, for people wanting to be directed towards the cigars they will enjoy. Cheers mate 1
