ayepatz Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 I’m currently enjoying this mystery Cuban cigar, gifted by a friend. I confess I am stumped! Absolutely no idea what it could be! Closest I can guess is Davidoff Gran Corona. Size seems to be around 49 x 215. Definitely an old cigar. Very smooth and balanced, fantastic construction and burn. Lovely, but fragile ash. Medium bodied. Shows a woodiness and a dominant milky coffee note. Slight nuttiness on the retrohale. Hint of sweetness. Any ideas what it might be, chaps? (Lusitania for comparison.)
Philc2001 Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Seems a bit short to be a Gran Corona, which tends to be about 235mm by 47, and obviously too long to be a prominente like the Lusitania. Do you suppose it was a custom roll? I don't know what else it could be.
kalibratecuba Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 I'm thinking one of the customs from Ravi.Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
ayepatz Posted October 9, 2018 Author Posted October 9, 2018 I’m inclined to agree that it was a custom, though no idea who rolls this size.
Derboesekoenig Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Looks like Maravilla size. There was just a picture posted comparing a HdM Maravilla to a DC

It looks beautiful and like a mold was used when it was constructed. Molds that size (length) don't grow on trees, especially in Cuba. The wrapper is also beautiful, so probably a roller with access to good tobacco. It could be Reynaldo, but he typically cranks the RG up faster than the length, so I would lean another direction. How old is "definitely old"? Do you have anymore info on the vintage? La Chine used to roll some pretty large cigars when she was still rolling. I have some Rodolphoish size customs from her that are out-of-this-world nut-bombs.
ponfed Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 I was thinking a Sancho Panza Sancho, that would have lost its band.
earthson Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 Just screams "custom roll" to me. While Reynaldo is an excellent guess, many of the rollers will roll whatever vitola you want if they have the tobacco to support it. I recently finished some Carlos Fernandez "lanceros." They were about 8.5 x 40/42 and were supposedly a "Behike blend." While that could just be fanciful marketing on the part of the secondary market I scored them from, they were utterly perfect cigars with Cohiba-orange wrappers and had complex, evolving flavors that went on and on. To be honest, it's impossibly to tell, but the cigar in question above doesn't look VERY old.

Appearances can be deceptive! Lol The wrapper was very delicate and required judicious application of gum Arabic to restore its appearance. The flavours were notably different from recent customs I picked up in Havana, and closer to those I’ve had from older cigars (in the 20 to 30 year zone) in my collection.

It’s a much bigger cigar.
