Popular Post jackupster Posted October 3, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 3, 2018 Just thought I would show off my new wineador. I had a Newair 300 that was packed! A friend of mine bought this Edgestar 166 bottle single zone and the cedar shelves. He never set it up and decided to go with an Aristocrat MXT. He sold it to me for deal. I put in Staebell's set and forget system with a couple fans and about 3lbs of 65% beads in tubes. I also added some LED lights from Amazon. I have 3 Wireless Sensor Tags in it that warn me if the RH is too high or low. I can also check the RH and Temp from anywhere I have data for my phone. 10 1

Download the app and hook up to wifi. They also have a remote just in case your phone isn't handy. They are real easy to install. https://www.amazon.com/Nexlux-Controlled-Wireless-Waterproof-Smartphone/dp/B072FJ1WD9/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1538595035&sr=8-1&keywords=nexlux 1

Have fun filling that one up ?

Have fun filling that one up ? Ahhh yes...that's how it all started. I have a Diamond Crown 125 desktop that I started with. Then I went to the 2.5CU FT New Air wineador 2 years ago. Then the last 6 months that was packed and I was using ziplocks with bovedas. As for the Prez and FOH...they are the best. I have a few from a couple vendors and FB buys but most of what you see are from here. You have found the best place to stock up.
Bagman Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 So I did the same lights and even though they produce almost no heat, per the manufacturer, they actually did. The heat pooled to the top and caused the top to get too warm. It looks beautiful, but I had to yank them all out. I got a great pickture of 8 cc-300's all lit up, and then removed them all. I was sad. No bling for the cigars. Long story short, keep an eye out, you may find issues with temps.

This may be a dumb question, but aren't the temps a little high? right humidity, but 74-75 for cc's?

Never been worried about temps from mid 60's to mid 70's. Beetles would be the only concern. All my sticks are exports so HSA freezes them to kill beetles. Everyone here that has desktops and Coleman coolers keeps their house at 64F year round? Doubt it!

This is from PigFish the local "cigar Climatologist" around here. He knows more about storing cigars than most of us put together. I copied and pasted from a old thread Hygrometers and hygrometer errors are not linear. If you examine precision equipment and published errors, you typically find higher errors at the ends of their published ranges. I bring this up just to exemplify the fact that hygrometer errors are not linear. Hygrometer errors are also generally discussed at a specific temperature, what we refer to as an isotherm. If then your hygrometer reads 70/70 and has XX error. This means that it only has the XX error at 70/70, not 70/68 nor 68/70. (Numbers are for example use only!) Smoking then determines how you should store your cigars (MHO). High temperatures don't damage cigars, however it is arguable about the growth of bots. I am not qualified to talk on that so I won't. I have heard stories of beetles being hatched in the 60's so I cannot comment about their activities at various temps, but tend to try to keep my cigars less than 75 degrees F. There are also sorption isotherms for tobacco. This means that tobacco experiences its individual hysteresis separate from your beads, your wood and your boxes in your humidor. This should be intuitive. My experience is that hysteresis for tobacco is greater at lower temperatures. Meaning, in the real world, lower temperature tobacco requires dryer conditions for my smoking preference. Water activity equipment is expensive and I cannot rationalize the expense for my cigar hobby, so I cannot prove the claim. I may be totally wrong, but the empirical evidence leads me to this conclusion and therefore I act on it. Temperature and humidity, and ultimately the water activity, or the actual water in the cigar change with both a change in humidity and temperature. Remember, a RH number at a given temperature is only an equilibrium guide to conditioning cigars. This in and of itself does not tell you the water in your cigars. It only leads you to a point that you believe the cigar will smoke to your taste. Lastly I say... is it 65 DF in Cuba? Nope! Do they refrigerate their cigars when they store them? Nope! Does the cigar care if it is refrigerated? Nope! Does it much matter, when talking tobacco and not bots? Nope! To conclude, when one studies the storage of packaged food items, it is the control of water that it important to control decay, mold and spoilage. Of course they use preservatives, but the preservatives are not in the form of pesticides. They often control the water content of the finished product. Your packaged food may be in the mini-mart store for months before you buy it. And when the attendant goes home and turns the AC off the package may get rather warm and it does not spoil. There is no direct correlation, because these are products made often in aseptic equipment, but the correlation to preservation and water content is real and as you know, a lot of dry food items need no refrigeration. Cheers. -Piggy
