ponfed Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 So I've gotten a box of RASCC. Abr 17. It's the youngest I ever got them. First box of them too. And let me tell you they are .... unruly. You get glimpses of the tastiness, but it burns bitter , unequal, the draw tightens up on me mid cigar... the works! They're kept at 62% 69F, dryboxed at around 55/57% but still. Might be construction, a bad box or bad examples from this box. But I'd like to know, when do you guys smoke them? When do they become more approachable in your opinion? It's been pretty humid outside where I smoke these past few days, like 90%. I'm thinking that might be part of it, but what do you think?
RazorbackFan Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 For me, I give them a few years down. I’m working on a box of JUN 2016s that are still extremely “unruly”, as you say. Nothing wrong with the construction within this box, but these cigars are over the top mongrel still. i have a box of DEC 2013 RASCC I’m going to crack into next. Hopefully they’re refined. I’ve heard other members on here say that RASCC hit a rough stretch in terms of quality around this time period. 1
BinBin Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Last night I had one so young when I was done I had to burp her 1 2
Doctorossi Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 RASCC and Montecristo Especiales are maybe the only cigars I try to keep within a window instead of just using a minimum aging time because I do like them on the more potent side, so I try to not let the edge fall off completely. For both of these, I try to smoke them no younger than 3 and no older than 8. I haven't done a whole lot of experimentation with other ages of these. However, I have some in the 15-20 years range that are still wonderful cigars and super-refined, but just milder than I prefer these particular blends.

KnightsAnole Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Personally never had one I’ve really enjoyed. I have boxes from 13 and 14 that I’ve hit every couple of months for the past 2 years and they are just too strong for me. Lately I’ve been bringing one along as a second cigar if I’m feeling like it. I enjoy them a little more as a sloppy seconds.
... Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 Was not a big fan of the ones out of my first box but around the 5 year mark, I'm enjoying them more and more.
thedame007 Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I have a box of 2013 that are delicious, so like a lot of these folks I would agree that for me its takes 4-5 years to reach tasty - and when they get there, they're just beautiful smokes. Patience.

Which I deem promising but for now they are horrible ..I’ve had 1 good one out of like 7 so far......and every time I keep telling myself not to touch them but I keep hoping ....at this point I’m content with my touching them for several years ....funny how that works ...sometimes the cigars you end up aging are ones you don’t want to smoke now because they’re not good ....let’s hope they turn around man! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The frustrating thing is : I have had good ones before! Several even! They were singles from a B&M , they had a couple years on them. So I can see them through the bitterness. I guess it's a waiting game now.... at least I have other sticks to smoke... 1
earthson Posted August 31, 2018 Posted August 31, 2018 I treat them like RASS - 3-4 years minimum to (hopefully) pull those spiced honeys flavors and aromas. 1
