Will zip lock bags hold humidity for a week?

Hi all,

I don't have a real travel humidor, but I'd like to take cigars on holiday. Can a good plastic storage bag hold humidity decently for a few days?  Any other cheap options?

I just need to remember to crack the back taking off and landing. Altitude loves to blow up bags.

Get an airtight tupperware container instead of a ziplock bag.

altitude blows up bags? I pack tons of stuff in ziplocks, never had a bag blow on me.

Small tupperware and humidipack is definitely the best way to go.

Every time I take a small bag of chips or pretzels with me, I reach for them at cruising altitude and the bag is now a giant balloon.  The inside pressure expands the bag.  It's pretty funny.

I brought back three cigars inside a ziplock bag during my last trip to the Caribbean and had zero problems with humidity or expansion of the bag (and the bag was sealed tight). I don’t leave a lot of air inside the sealed bag and have never had to crack the bag. A ziplock should work fine. 

 

The shop where I get my Habanos singles on the island always seals them in a ziplock for me with no humidification device. I’ve never had a problem. The cigars are fine all week. Enjoy your trip

Yes mate. Lower pressure in a plane at altitude means the air inside a bag has more outward force and hence “puff” a bag. All well and good for a bag of pretzels filled with air. But for a bag of cigars which won’t have too much air in it you won’t notice much at all.

Throw in bag, try and get all the bulk air out. Close. Take with you. You’ll be fine for weeks/months.

The biggest risk is damage. If they get squashed in the overhead compartment or something. Hence fuzz’s suggestion is highly recommended. Go to the local supermarket and get a Tupperware container at whatever size you want. They’re probably the same price as a box of zip lock bags.

Thanks everyone. Found a Tupperware that is like a vertical cup made for soup. It has a screw on top secure enough to hold liquid . Easily fits half a dozen cigars plus humidity pack.

I stuff my tupperware container with a bit of bubble wrap if there is any loose space, just to make sure the cigars don't get jostled during the trip.

I have plenty of singles stored in baggies with 8 gram boveda packs inside and they work excellent imo...
