daniel.toccalino Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Are there any really good sticks in Puerto Rico? Hand rolled, preferably remotely similar to something you’d find in Havana? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Fuzz Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Nice first post. It is customary to post an introduction here, before asking the forum for assistance. 1
BrightonCorgi Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 Not only that; there are not many places to smoke cigars.
sjmistry Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 @daniel.toccalino Where in Puerto Rico will you be travelling? There is a place in Old San Juan that I enjoyed. Owner greeted me with a cigar and a shot of rum on his dime. I enjoyed the cigars and actually have some in my collection. Not sure if I can post the name of the shop, so shoot me a PM and I will let you know. Some of the fresh hand rolls I bought from some street vendors were enjoyable as well. -Shake 1
hedgeybaby Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Mrs Hedgeybaby is Puerto Rican, so I've had the opportunity to go down to the island a few times. Don Collins is pretty famous as the cigars are actually made in Puerto Rico. Though I found them to be very expensive for what they are. In Old San Juan, I think the best place to go is The Cigar House. They have a good selection and the cavernous bar is pretty damn cool, with lots of cool graffiti. Obviously all of the cigars on the island are non Cuban, but the women will make up for it. Cigar Vixen did a video about her trip which will give you a flavor : Start reading Hunter S Thompson's The Rum Diary, as it sums up the chaotic nature of the place. Don't bother with the movie though as it's rubbish in comparison. Also, a word of warning on the women - They are extremely volatile creatures!!!!!! 1

cigcars Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 *I've only seen the machine-made drug store available Antony & Cleopatra cigars available as made in Puerto Rico
Danimalia Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 My first handmade cigars were purchased at a tobacco shop in Old San Juan. I was 14 years old and on vacation with my family. I smoked cigarettes regularly at the time, and also had had a few Swisher Sweets and things and liked them. Puerto Rico was a really easy place to buy cigarettes for a 14 year old back in 1996. I remember telling the man at the tobacco shop I was looking for cigars for my Dad, though he didn't seem to care that I was underage, and he picked me out a few cheap cigars, unbanded cigars. I remember they were dark, and in my memory at least, massive. I remember smoking one by the pool at the hotel. Later when I got home, they started falling apart because I didn't know anything about humidors. I do remember being surprised at how they were made up of whole leaves. 1
