Wushy Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Pretty much what the title says. Took about a 1-2 month break from cigars due to misc. reasons. Decided to light up a Connie A last week and as soon as I puffed on it, tasted like burnt rubber and I had to chuck it due to how bad it tasted. Thinking it might have been a dud, I tried a Monte 5 the following weekend and the same burnt taste. From my own experiences, the Connie A and Monte 5 have been pretty consistent, and that I got the same problem from both tells me it's either storage or it's me. As for storage, they're kept at 62-65% RH, so I'm more inclined to think it's just me. Anyone else experience this before? And if so, any advice? Note: As an experiment, I guess I'll try a NC like a Liga T52 or something that I know is extremely consistent. If it tastes like heinous rubber instead of cocoa and dirt, it's probably me.
fitzy Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Hmmm just curious what you store your cigars in. I've never experienced this issue.
luckme10 Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I had a travel humidor that would leave my cigars tasting like rubber. Probably best to give one to a friend from the humidor and see what they taste. 1
kalibratecuba Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Has anything changed in your life? The first thing that came to mind is a new medication. I've only had one cigar that tasted so bad that I could not finish it.Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

They're stored in a tupperdore. On 7/3/2018 at 3:15 PM, kalibratecuba said: Has anything changed in your life? The first thing that came to mind is a new medication. During that time I was on a trip and had a cigar and it was fine. I'm pretty confused as to what's going on.
Wilzc Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 Normally. They would taste amazing after a break. Even a 48 hour break
PapaDisco Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 Doesn't sound like humidity is your problem, but I frequently get the same symptoms when I take a box from home (65/65 storage) to the heat and humidity of Southeast Asia. ROTT they commonly (not always, but more often than not) smoke harsh and like a burning tire. If I leave them to acclimate for several weeks and avoid trying to keep them at 65/65, they come back to form and flavor, although the high humidity can make them difficult to keep lit.
Danimalia Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 I had a similar thing happen when I switched from smoking cigarettes to using Swedish Snus. I'd be shoving wads of snus in my mouth all day, and if you're not familiar, it's loaded with salt and bergamot and other strongish flavors. Then, when I'd get home, I'd fire up a cigar and be really disappointed. Like, from the initial puffs, the flavors were shocking and unpleasant to my palate. Eventually, though, it sort of went away and my palate adjusted. Then I started smoking cigarettes again and quit snus, but that's another issue. Try some other cigars like the T52. If it is you, I suggest smoking your way through it. I bet your palate adjusts.
BellevilleMXZ Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 I know when I was on antibiotics took months before stuff tasted right.......
