El Presidente Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 I was looking up some information on Bacardi Gran Reserva and came across this site https://www.rumratings.com/brands?order_by=average_rating Handy, or at least I found it to be. Any standout bargains in the top 50?
mtd057 Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Ron Abuelo and Flor de Cana are two of my favorites. 1
Ken Gargett Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 tried the 21 year old el dorado on the weekend. love to see the 25 to see if it really was better, because that 21 year old is one of the great rums.
Habana Mike Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Have never heard of #1 before - after research not sure I'm looking for a bottle anytime soon.... Nice site you posted though I find this one also an extensive and enlightening resource. 1
Derboesekoenig Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 First Cuban rum is #33? And no others in top 50. Next one is #62. Anybody else want to chime in? I haven't tried too many rums to begin with, so I am not well versed in that realm. 1
BuzzArd Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 One thing I don’t have a great inventory on is rum.... maybe have 6-7 diiferent ones in the cupboard. Ought to branch out. Problem is, with the attention it’s getting it keeps going up in price. I haven’t had a raise in income in 6 years, so it curtails my ability to indulge.... So my considerations would have to be under $100 certainly. For a long while Ron Zacappa was $30/bottle at total wine and more. I bought a bottle every payday one summer 6years ago and still have 5 unopened bottles. Not sure what it costs now, but I’ll be surprised if it’s under $45/bottle. Appleton reserve is a name in my head. Think i would buy that at one time. Nothing like RZ or Zaya for that matter, but a good rum. And I’m usually happy with Cruzan aged rum in my mojitos. It’s that damned beer budget that gets me....

If you are looking for something to sip, I prefer Zacapa 23 Solera or El Dorado 15. Havana Club 7 is definitely good stuff, but it’s not my first choice to drink straight. I bought a bottle of Ron Santiago 12 on my last trip to the Caribbean, and I doubt I will buy any more, especially for the price I paid. It’s good but not great, in my opinion. 1
Derboesekoenig Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Interesting. I definitely would like a sipping rum, and don't have any issue paying for one. I figured the Cuban rums worked better as mixers as that is what seems to be popular by the Cubans--cocktails.
gorob23 Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 Ron Centenario 25-Year, should be rated much better. I'l take this over the 30 year anytime and all day on Sunday.. which makes Monday really tough to deal with. I have had about 7 of the higher rated rums and I'll still take the 25 year old ... Rob 1
Martin_F Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 I've posted this on here before, my top five would be: 1 Appleton Estate 21 year old ~$115 2 Diplomatico Single Vintage 2002 ~$80 3 Ron Santiago de Cuba 20 anos ~$110 4 Edmundo Dantes 15 anos ~$80 5 Zacapa Reserva Limitada 2014 ~$80 Interesting how Kirks&Sweeney shows up twice in the top 53. I didn't really enjoy their 12 year old too much for the price... And +1 on there only being two offerings from Cuba in the top 50. Not sure where this website is based out of, maybe availability could be the issue?
javonazul Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 I would say Diplomático Single Vintage 2002 is the standout there at $80. But it’s just my taste! 1
Jimmy_jack Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Not a rum person. Never have been. Having said that I bought a bottle of HC Selecion de Maestros. It was glorious. Drank it all in no time.
