JohnS Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 "Enjoy your cigar with an alcoholic beverage. Though this is not a requirement, an alcoholic beverage can enhance the smoking experience and can bring out the flavors of the cigar. Some common beverages for smoking a cigar include port, cognac, bourbon or scotch, or red wine -- especially Cabernet Sauvignon." Handy advice!
thedame007 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 "Remove the band after twelve puffs or so. The band is placed on the cigar to prevent the tobacco from tearing, but you won't need it anymore, once your cigar is lit. After twelve or so puffs, the band will already be starting to fall off on its own, due to the heat." They have clearly not smoked a Cuban cigar! A crowbar is handier... 1 1

IanMcLean68 Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 I see they are still perpetuating age old myths and stereotypes on this wiki, like: 1) The stereotypical goatee-bearded cigar smoker. 2) "The longer and wider a cigar is, the more intense it will be. If you're a beginner, you should start with a longer and thinner cigar" 3) "start with a mild cigar, which will not only be less expensive" 4) They say not to use a gas lighter over a fuel lighter?! And then tick the use of a Zippo! 5) After twelve or so puffs, the band will already be starting to fall off on its own. What are they smoking, nubs? 5) And then, just for icing on the cake - they say just to set the cigar down when finished, but demonstrate stubbing the cigar out 6) Then, in the Q&A at the end, some idiot says cigars will keep about 5 years in a humidor. Oh well, damn, then many of mine are obviously "passed-use-by-date"! In the tips at end, and one of the worst perpetuated myths of the cigar world ... 7) the color is a way to gauge the intensity. A black or dark cigar is more intense. A lighter amber is a good starter. Sheesh. Sorry everyone, but I love pulling apart these so called "how to" web pages written by so called "experts" (a.k.a wet-behind-the-ears kids who wouldn't have the slightest clue of what they are talking about). 1 3

I agree with you, just not for the reasons they specify in the How-To I just don't believe there is much if any merit in the statement "The longer and wider a cigar is, the more intense it will be". I usually find it is in fact the other way round. Maybe I should have cut that statement there!
