cfc1016 Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 ? To be fair... I remember this being a fairly frequent occurrence in the 90s. In almost a year since i got back into the hobby, this is the first time I’ve had to trash any cigars. 1
mrmessy Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Sorry, new to this. But what am i looking at? Tobacco dust from some bug? Or some poor quality tobacco? Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
mrmessy Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Tobacco beetle poo. Eww. Guess that's not the manure that some people mention I their tasting notes. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk I get the impression that a lot of the people who say they get hints of ‘manure’ and ‘barnyard’ have never been anywhere near a farm. There’s nothing appetizing to me about the smell of cow manure or horse stalls, lol.
rd151 Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Did you see any signs there were beetles or do you do random “tap” checks and found them?RobSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rupe Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 It sends a shiver right through me every time I think about an infestation. Looks like it’s time for some cleanup and deep freeze.

Rob Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk The box had a heavy dusting of beetle poo in it when I opened it, multiple cigars with holes bored through to the wrapper, and one dead beetle loose in the box. I received these weeks ago. I inspect everything I get on arrival before it goes in my box. These were clearly in bad shape. Never entered my humidor. I froze for a week, refrigerated for another week, and tap tested each of them individually last night. 1
Fuzz Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 Hang on a tick. You kept these cigars that were obviously in poor shape? Did you not go back to your vendor?

Oh no I guess I could have chosen better wording. I reported the issue to the vendor immediately and it was resolved summarily. No issues there. I just held onto the sticks to see if a couple could potentially be salvaged. They’re 10yo (albeit only entreactos) - I’d feel bad if I didn’t atleast TRY to salvage one. A few passed the tap test. Many were clearly infested though.
