I confess it was a mistery to me if the boxes were produced/manufactured/assembled inside or outside Cuba. now I have the answer... well, I never asked anyone about it maybe it is common knowledge these factories. btw, i do think the boxes are very well made. no cracks, not overglued, nails. but I never inspected thousands boxes like Rob does.

Its confusing in the article, but Guanabacoa is district on the far eastern side of Havana, technically still part of the city. I believe that certain special/high end boxes, like Behike, Bushido, etc. are actually produced by the same company in Europe (Holland maybe?) that produces the bands. The only factory I know of in Havana capable of producing that level of work is very small, cramped, and old, which greatly limits the volume of boxes they can generate. Because of this most of what they do is custom, one off humidors for special events and clients. Maybe this factory gives them the capability to produce some of these more intricate and heavily coated/finished boxes on island, rather than importing them. Although as you mentioned, 3 million CUP is not a lot of money for a multinational organization as big as HSA, so it could simply be some added efficiencies, or complete BS.
