Santiago Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Just inspected a box of Monte 2 from 24:24 I got a few weeks ago, and noticed one of the sticks got a bit sliced somehow. Any tips on how to make the best of this one? 1
ElJefe Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I would recommend taking a think vertical strip of similar shade and quality of wrapper leaf. That plus some vegetal glue to paste the leaf over the vertical strip tear you have, followed by some rest to ensure the wrapper sticks well and you should be in business my friend. 1
JamesKPolkEsq Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Had the same problem with a Vegas Robina Don Alejandro... No idea what causes this...
RazorbackFan Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 I’ve had recent success with cigar surgery using wrapper pieces from cheap NCs, combined with PerfecRepair cigar glue ($10 shipped on Amazon). I’m still learning as I go, but I’ve saved several pricy (to me) cigars so far, and the cheap sacrificial NC stick and the glue have already paid for themselves several times over. Good luck with the repair! 1
canadianbeaver Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 Got a friend who smokes a pipe? Do you? This is part of the cigar process sometimes and it happens once in a blue moon. But you can cut up the tobacco and smoke it in a pipe and it is heaven on earth. CB. 3
avaldes Posted January 2, 2018 Posted January 2, 2018 If you take some cut off caps from other cigars, you can wet them out and unravel the wrapper to use for patching damaged cigars. You may need a couple for this job but it should work.
Santiago Posted January 3, 2018 Author Posted January 3, 2018 Thanks folks, that’s about what I had in mind since the wound isn’t too deep. Will try with some saliva and thin strips from a throwaway stick and see how it goes 1
cigaraholic Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Smoke it...the cracks not going to get any smaller....should still smoke fine? 2

An all thumbs cutting too deep when breaking the Habanos seal (suspect it's the rightmost stick). Likely maltreated in the importer's (or merchant's) warehouses. Happens. Rolling paper does help keeping it from bursting open while smoking. 2
BuzzArd Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Fugu is likely correct. I had the same issue with 4 different boxes received all about the same time a couple years ago. A quick email to the vendor and I've never had another issue.

On zoom a scratch consistent with your theory is readily visible on the band, tracking the underlying slice perfectly.

It is the rightmost stick, upper level, not visible on initial inspection since it’s a bit off to the side. Nicely deduced, Mr Holmes
joeman Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Mystery solved now for some Scooby snacks! I never thought of a rolling paper. Probably a lot thinner and stickier than a piece of a cap.
