What To Get?

Just wanted some input from some of the more seasoned CC smokers here on FOH. I should be receiving my Christmas bonus on Friday and for the first time in years I think I'm going to use part of it on something I want. That being said i was curious as to what you guys would buy if given a similar opportunity? (Probably staying around the 300 dollar range, still gotta buy the wife's gift.)

Check the best of 2017 and best cigars of Sep/Oct/Nov threads for what's been smoking well recently.

$300 should get you a few boxes of some good recent production. I personally would go for any combo of these: RASCC, SC El Principe, RG Perlas, HUC1, HUHC, Trini Reyes, Trini Vigia, Cuaba Distinguidos, QdOCC.

You should be able to get at least 2 boxes of anything on that list with $300 and all of those have had strong showings for 16/17.

   * I would recommend a Variety/Sampler pack of CC's - can't go wrong with that, and you'll have the best of ALL worlds of brands/sizes/flavors...and decide which you love/like the best! My 2 cts.

I am trying to make the same decision as well.

I haven`t pulled the trigger yet, but I am planning on buying a box to smoke now and a box to age. 

Looking at a box of Montecristo Dantes (to age) and another box of H. Upmann PCs or Rafael Gonzalez PCs.

Just my 2¢, but my recent experience is that both the RG Perlas and Panetelas are smoking better than the PCs, and I'd also recommend recent production Connie 1 over the HUPC. The PCs are good, but the Connie 1s are great and are a much better value IMO. 

Also, have you tried the Monte Dantes yet? It's not for everyone and depending on your tastes these may not be where you want them to be for many years.

Thanks for the input! I might go with a box of Perlas then. Or both haha. I was leaning towards the PCs as Rob and a few others have mentioned that if you can get a quality box, they are smoking great. Another reason I was thinking about the PCs instead of the Perlas was I just ordered a box of Monte No.5s from a recent 24:24 sale. 

I actually bought a 1/4 box of the Connie 1s from a recent 24:24 that are in transit now and if I like them, I will probably get a box of them. I`m a big fan of the PCs and I figured since they have been discontinued, I should probably get a couple boxes from Rob before I can`t find them.  

As far as the Dantes, I haven`t tried them yet but I am a big fan of the Monte profile (no.2, no.4 and PEs) so I figured they`d be a good box for me to put away for several years. 

Any suggestions for a box to put down instead of the Dantes?

Many have said that recent RGP are truly on par with the Monte 5 and I can't argue with that myself. They've been excellent.

I would definitely try one first then. They definitely appear to be a bit punchier than the standard Monte. They're not cheap and if you don't like them which you may not they may never become something you do like at any point.

Cigars that tend to age well are most Cohiba models but specifically the Linea Clasica, Por Larranaga--particularly the PCs, LGC MdO4, Sancho Panza I've always liked with some age, Boli PC and CJ also do very well with some time. 

As far as a "special" box to put down, I actually think the recent RyJ Capuletos will probably shine and have some real legs long term as well as the Mag 56. You can always go with Lanceros or Coronas Especiales which are rarely disappointing with 2+ years on them.

Buy a PSP Cab of PLPC. 50 cigars under budget which smoke good now and will be likely (IMO) the best smoking cigars in your humidor in 5 years.

I've never had the PLPC, but they make a lot of sense. You could basically get the best of both worlds since they come in 50 cabs. A "box" to smoke now, and a "box" to age. I know Rob has suggested that for newcomers to that cigar. Smoke half a cab young, and age the other half. With $300, you have a lot of options.

If it was my $300 bonus, I'd probably use it on something I might not be able to afford.very easily. like Partagas 898, or a high-grade box of Monte 2, or even some good DCs (a touch over $300).

Not a fan at all of PLPC's, but they do have a follow.  How about one or two dress boxes of BBF's?  Can't go wrong; don't take up much space and price is right.

I sort of hijacked this thread a bit by saying I was in the same boat as Kferguson (sorry about that ) but I decided to buy 2 x 3 packs of the Cohiba Esplendidos that are on 24:24 right now as I don`t have many churchills and I will probably move forward with a cab of PLPCs the next time they are on 24:24. Smoked a TOS FEB 16 PLPC the other night that was really good. 

I would go with a box of BBFs but I bought a box a couple months ago... Too many cigars and not enough space/$$$...

@JJlavine4 No problem brother, this is an open thread to help the indecisive just like me. I looked at those esplendidos myself, but I believe I'll probably go with @NSXCIGAR suggestion and get a variety of smaller sticks.

I`ve really enjoyed Monte PEs (SUM NOV 16) and HUPCs (TOS ENE 17) right OTB as of lately.

Esplendidos are about as expensive as a regular cigar gets.  I would not suggest it to anyone who has a budget looking for cigars.  Are they worth the money; yes I think s...  Unless you have deep pockets you can have 85% that cigar for near half the cost.
