MasterShake72 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I'm heading to Europe for the first time at the end of this month. I'll be in Budapest for a few days then I'm boarding a river cruise from there to Nuremberg, including a stop in Vienna. After that I'm heading to Munich where Ill be flying back home from. I'll be stopping at the LCDH in Nuremberg for sure, but are there any other shops worth checking out in any of those other cities? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Martin_F Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 There is one pretty much in down town Vienna I've heard good things about. (My brother got me some cigars there) It's small, but the selection sounds decent. CIGARS - Zigarrengeschäft - Wessely Weihburggasse 3, 1010 Wien, Austria It's only two blocks away from the Stephansdom (St. Stephens's Cathedral), which I'm sure you'll be visiting 1
El Hoze Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I spend a lot of time in Munich. I haven't scoured the city looking at all of the cigar shops but there is a decent shop I frequent called Pfeifen Huber that is located very close to the Marienplatz and central area you'll likely be in/around at some point. Have had reasonable success over the years scoring some harder to come by boxes there..in particular older boxes of Cohiba CE and Lanceros on recent trips. And if you're just looking to reload your travel supply with some singles to smoke, they have a decent selection of the usual cigars. There may be better in Munich, but Pfeifen Huber is worth a stop, and very centrally located. Munich is a great city. I travel all over and Munich has a special place in my heart. Beer is a big part of that. I always stay right next to the Hofbrauhaus and get a room overlooking their courtyard/beer garden. One of my favorite spots to camp out for a few days listening to people sing and drink beer all day. You won't find a city on earth more dedicated to drinking beer than Munich. I'd also recommend taking a trip to the English Garden and taking a swim/float down the Eisbach if the weather isn't too cool. The water is ice cold anyway, something I hate as much as I love beer, but it's an experience to jump in and "ride" it down. Tons of fun. Enjoy, sounds like a fantastic trip and great time of year to do it. Cheers! 1
Buck14 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Try Y Julieta in Munich, there is a Turkish-German gentleman in that shop that sold me the best CC custom I’ve ever smoked back in March of this year. Ask him if he has any customs (they won’t be out in plain sight you have to ask). They also have a nice little cigar lounge. https://www.y-julieta.de/startseite/
ayepatz Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 There's a cracking new LCDH in Munich at Ledererstraße 19, just around the corner from the Hofbräuhaus in the Altstadt. 1
FatPete Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 I'd forget Budapest. There is a poorly stocked shop in the centrum that try and sell you another cigar rather than the one you are looking for, and get annoyed if you don't buy it. Thats my experience anyway 1
MasterShake72 Posted October 13, 2017 Author Posted October 13, 2017 I appreciate all the advice. Ill make a point to check those shops in Munich and I'll be right around the corner from the shop in Vienna so Ill stop there as well, and maybe a few other places I've stumbled across. I've always heard Istanbul is crap for cigars (I won't bother looking while I'm there) and I see its pretty much the same thing at Budapest, which isn't completely unexpected. But it'll be nice to see a few impressive humidors stocked with goodies, and with any luck I'll stumble across a wishlist box or 2.
Webbo Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 If you are prepared to travel 50 minutes by car outside of Vienna you should check out Excalibur city (http://www.excaliburcity.com/en/) just over the border in the Czech republic. The widest selection and lowest prices I have seen anywhere in Europe.
Martin_F Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 I found this picture of the Vienna store on Cigar Inspector. Not sure how old the picture is, but the variety looks pretty decent.
MasterShake72 Posted October 13, 2017 Author Posted October 13, 2017 @Webbo Low prices and great selection are exactly what I'm looking for. A 4+ hour round trip including border crossings and time to explore the humidor isn't in the cards though. Since I'm on a river cruise I only have the one day to explore Vienna. I'd hate to miss it completely and my wife would be beyond pissed if I blew her off just to go check out cigars for the majority of the day. She won't begrudge me making some stops and having a smoke since we're in the area anyway, but much more than that and I would be asking for trouble.
