Popular Post Head83 Posted September 28, 2017 Popular Post Posted September 28, 2017 So my dad would always tell me stories of our family line and how it got a start here in the states after coming over from Germany in the 1800s and settling in Alabama. He told me my great-great-grandad owned a cigar factory. Very little information was known other than they were called JC Specials and that the tobacco would show up in bails on the train from the port in Mobile. He would say it was from Cuba but no one really can prove that, but like I always say, don’t let the truth ruin a good story. Well the factory closed down sometime in the 1930s and there is nothing left of the old site. For decades, we have been trying to find an old cigar box from the factory but they were nowhere to be found. Last week when I was back home visiting, he told me he had a surprise and low and behold he found one! His new neighbor finally put together our family name and asked if we were related to the old cigar factory. My dad told him yes and filled him in on the family details and how we had been looking for an old box. He told my dad he might actually have one out in an old barn on his family farm and he would check. Sure as hell, he found one. He kept apologizing for the state it was in but for what could be the last one in existence, I say it looks pretty damn good! I give the FoH family the JC Specials! My dad is in fact named for him and shares the exact same initials JCH. Figured everyone here could enjoy a little family story like this. 23 2

PapaDisco Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Imagine moving from Germany to Alabama in 1800! What culture shock! 1 1

madandana Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Great story. Cool that you got that box. 1
Danimalia Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I think back then a lot of the cigars made in the USA used Cuban tobacco. I believe there were called Clear Havana Cigars and were a more affordable option than Cuban puros. Anyway, that is really cool. 1
