Some people really seem to hate this movie. I don't. I like Bill Murray, and love Scarlett. Its no surprise they worked so well together, despite the huge age gap. I've got a box of Cohiba 1966s for anyone that can tell me what he whispers in here ear as the movie ends. ;)

He whispered, "You should send your Cohibas to Nekhyludov."

“I have to be leaving, but I won’t let that come between us. OK?”

The appeal of this film comes from the fact that Japanese language and culture is difficult for foreigners to connect with. But what if this is the case with those who are intimately related to us? Hence, the beauty of this film.

One of my favourite films. It holds out the hope that even when one is completely adrift, in an unknowable land, in a life that has become its own parody, a beautiful connection can still be made.

As for that whisper, I prefer not to know.
