Popular Post Ken Gargett
a doctor buddy of mine had a dozen of us around to his place for a small lunch for his birthday. i could not resist posting for those interested in such things. for locals, he had PJ from Harvey's in to cater so you knew the food would be spectacular. and it was. kicked off with a terrific Rose champagne I'd never heard of – Prevorteau-Perrier. delicious. then a couple really good white burgs - Paul Pillot Chassagne Montrachet 'la Romanee' 2014 and Pousse d'Or Puligny Montrachet 'le Caillerets' 2014. then things got serious - Latour 1990, 1996 and 2003; the 90 was amazing. next bracket was take me to heaven stuff - Rousseau Chambertin 98, 99, 00. 99 as good as you'd hope. then the three la-la's from Guigal from 1998 (all 100 point Parker wines - not sure i'd have given them all 100 but they were very close). la Mouline, la Landonne and La Turque. three Beaucastel Homage Jacques Perrin - 99, 03 and 04 (the 04 was corked so was replaced by the 05 which was nice as it was by far the best of the three and 04 has never done much for me any way). Finally a 75 Yquem to finish. glorious. The 90 Latour, 99 Chambertin and Yquem were the stars. but needless to say, moderation goes out the window - Camus XO and then two terrific rums which i'd not had before - Kirk & Sweeney 12 Year Old and the best of the three spirits, the Dictador 12 Year Old. i went home, watched the taped game of the Wallabies and had an old SLR DC and it was just superb. just wonderful. and possibly a bit more rum. Not a bad day.

99call
haha, I can hear the crackle of gout crystals forming from the UK. Very jealous. Hats off, Sounds like a rather splendid line up. Was eating cheating? or was the food no great shakes to talk of?

Ken Gargett
i do remember a terrific bug dish to kick off. lamb with the latour and a brilliant small beef dish which followed. PJ is a local chef, one of the best, and has been doing great things for years. but i would have eaten boiled mud to drink those wines. and no, i most certainly did not drive! the trio of chambertin was timely as we have a lunch in a few weeks which will look at a dozen or two grand cru gevrey chambertin. i know we have at least four rousseau chambertin and wines back to 1942. looking forward to that.
