Ken Gargett Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 just in case you guys need a warm up before the game. http://www.theroar.com.au/2017/05/31/queenslands-best-ever-state-origin-tries/
El Presidente Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Good luck gents. Wish I could be there but alas Game 2 or three it will be. Hard to believe. NSW are favourites.....again 1
luvdunhill Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Great time with the locals. Please intro yourself with your handle, if possible. I am easy - the 'Murican. 2
Luca Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 What I found funny yesterday was that the 31st of May is World No Tobacco day....lol *lights up cigar* Great catching up with everyone! Always a good time with the FOH gang 2
Fuzz Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 Was a bloody good game! Actually watched it instead of playing, "Who has the longest ash?". 1

It was great to see everyone last night but it was especially great to make your acquaintance @luvdunhill. Thanks for meeting up during your short stay in Sydney. 1

We are in a transition phase that will take a few years to play out. Still. Forwards Hess in. Wallace in. Mcculloch off the bench. (Miles out. Aguera out. Lillyman out) Backs. Ponga in (eventually). Munster in. Slater in (as a farewell). Valentine Holmes in. Ash taylor in (after Cronk). (o'neil out). There is 28 points in that side. It will take 2 years to transition. Loyalty plays a part in the QLD jersey. God bless it
JohnS Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 My take on what happened in Game 1 is simply that Queensland had too little State of Origin experience on the park. Billy Slater will return and Johnathan Thurston will make a miracle recovery for game two. Andrew Fifita had a game for the ages though, didn't he?

You can't cuddle him to the ground. In the end....great win. You need to win Game 2. All in your favour. Just the way we like it 1
Fuzz Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 James Tedesco also played a brilliant game. Saved 2 tries in the second half.
Ken Gargett Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 i thought tedesco was good but i did not known he was that good. a great game by him. that tackle on gillett on the line was reminiscent of topo. fifita my man of the match. blues played the way we normally do and we played the way an average blues side should. that short dropout idiotic and so rare from smith and qld. the final nail. nsw were so much better. oddly, normally that sends me nuts but last night, i was rather serene about it. the great run was always going to stop. you cannot take out four of the all time greats - inglis, parker, scott and JT - and replace them with two rookies and two journeymen and expect to have much chance. especially when you are carrying blokes well past their best - myles and lillyman. the positives from last night - only one other person in my tipping comp picked nsw. bird got used to winning at suncorp. milford showed he'll be good. ditto napa. the negatives - could not even say i had a great cigar. the last hoyo DC from 2000 and it was as bland and unimpressive as the other 24. looked at rob's thoughts (he and i are normally not too far apart on most sporting thoughts). Forwards Hess in. might be too soon. but if we get the Wallace in. agreed. Mcculloch off the bench. is there room? (Miles out. Aguera out. Lillyman out). agreed. Backs. Ponga in (eventually). we are talking at least a year or two. Munster in. every chance Slater in (as a farewell). no, slater in for ability. can't afford sentimentality. Valentine Holmes in. insane not to have him. Ash taylor in (after Cronk). i think that there are numerous candidates and taylor high on the list. (o'neil out). please. for me - boyd oates chambers gagai holmes (slater might come in to fullback and boyd to the wing) JT or milford if JT still out. cronk napa smith wallace gillett papali mcguire reserves - morgan (or milford if JT out) thaiday (on absolute last chance for a blinder) two more forwards - not sure who yet. hess might be a good choice. but even this side, i don't think comes close.

Coach Kevin Walters has indicated the return of both Slater and Thurston for game two today.
