Yeah and something for those humongous spiders you have down there.

I couldn't imagine!

the little asian geckos which have snuck into australia and exploded might be cute but they are killing off our spiders. apparently for centuries, the best defence these spiders had against predators was to remain perfectly still. no movement and they were not spotted. apparently geckos have no such issues. they can easily spot these spiders, still or moving, and that is the end of the spider.

i do my best to protect any i see at home - they also eat lots of bugs and crap, though i might feel differently if we had funnel webs.

Sooo, you're saying you'd like to import another animal species into Australia?

Sounds like a harmless experiment ?

I certainly don't want any black mambas slithering around my yard but I could really use a few snakes to take care of the gopher problem.

perhaps just a couple of males (or females) so no breeding and just for the backyard. i wonder if that immunity extends to brown snakes?

Well, according to the video, it seems mongoose is immunized against neurotoxins do to the way their receptors are setup. Mongoose eat all kinds of snakes (including cobras and others if I recall) so it would be safe to assume brown snake venom should be covered...

i also think they eat cobras etc, so one assumes the immunity is widespread. not sure i'd like to be the mongoose to try it though.
