After missing out on purchasing BCG's on 24:24 I ordered two boxes from a German LCDH.  Long story short through a comedy of errors the USPS has shipped them back to Germany as of yesterday with no way to stop them in transit (per USPS).  The LCDH has offered to either reship the cigars or refund me when they arrive in Germany.  Unfortunately they do not have any boxes left and it would be the same cigars reshipped.  The cigars have been in transit since the 11th of February and will likely be in transit another 3 weeks to DE and back (approx. 8 wks total) without humidification.

Is there any chance that cigars would be good or should I just throw in the towel and be happy to walk away without losing money?  I have my thoughts but would like to hear opinions or experiences of others who have had cigars stuck in transit for extended periods of time.

My first thought would be - that stinks. I'm trying to be polite. . I have only been on this community for a couple weeks and therefore only have that to offer sir.

It happened to me maaaaaany times, speccialy in the last year.

Ask them to keep the boxes in their humi for 2 months and after that reship them.

Are they willing to add a Boveda pack to the package before re-shiping them?  If so, they should be right when they get back to you.

Had this happen with a box of Monte 4s from here.  I had the acclimate for 6 months before I tried one.  No ill effects.

Not sure if you would get the same results though

As long as they are sealed they should be more or less fine I would think after they have been in your humidor for a few weeks. I would caution against the Boveda. Humidifying through radical temperature changes (heated warehouse to cargo hold at 30,000 ft) could wreak havoc with the cigars. When I took cigars in a ziplock with Boveda to a dessert once without a.c. they became absolutely, totally unsmokeably wet. Dried out pretty fast though :)

Long term, the cigars should be just fine. As long as they were packaged well, they wont be totally dry. This happens pretty regularly, unfortunately. I would agree with asking for them to be placed back in the humidor for a bit before reshipment, but this isn't even completely necessary. Give them a nice long rest in your humidor before you crack into them (2-3 months) and you wont know the difference.

Something similar happened to me from FOH. Greg I believe, said that he would set them aside for awhile to acclimatize then resend. All was good.

I did not ask he do this, Greg said that was the best course of action... and just did it. Props to Rob and his team for great service.

They will be fine.

With the time spent worrying about the shipping, you could be hunting down another box.

Sourced several more before I posted, however why give up the ship if it's not doomed to sink? I am going deep on these due to HSA's ridiculous decision to discontinue them.

Thank you to all for your feedback I am working out the details with the seller.

Do you know the box code? El Pres has been raving about his recent ones. PUR MAR 16 were on his best of 2016 sampler, but a couple of earlier ones I tried (2015 I think) underwhelmed.

No idea, I never got to see them...thanks to USPS!  Guess I'll find out when they complete their pilgrimage.

I've had several shipments delayed for well over one month, and they were fine after spending 2-3 months in my humidor.

I would have them reship them to you.  It's highly unlikely the ambient rH during transit was extreme, one way or the other.  Get them in your humidor and acclimatize them for six months, and then give them a try.

If you choose not to take the chance, these are readily available from various vendors.

I would not worry too much quite frankly. Lcdh packaging is just fine enough. Instead of a 30day acclimatization use 60-90 days and it will be absolutely no problem. Im pretty sure. Had a box with around 5months lost in transit before it arrived. After 90days I sampled the first and zero effecto or whatsoever...

Well not really. They are getting quite thin on the ground since the deletion...

Point is, he has other choices right now if he doesn't want to have them reshipped.  The German LCDH is not his only option.  But I get what you're saying.
