Mattb82 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 How many of you guys smoke in the car. I'm very tempted as I'm in traffic for hours each day often coming out of the NYC area. Is there anyway to keep the car from smelling? I've seen the window clip on holders, just don't want the car to have a permanent smell.
TomF Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I do. I accepted the fact that smoking in my car would result in the Castro-stank. 2
1LegLance Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I drive old metal vehicles that were built for smokers I have my granddad's 72 chevy truck that is lowered and the hot rod, and our 4wd family camping rig is a 70 Suburban, however I don't smoke in the wife's Toyota as newer cars seem to hold the smell more. Even though I don't have much of a commute (5.5 miles each way) I do take a cigar if I am running errands or facing any sort of traffic, keeps me sane and mellow. 3
zappaFREAK Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Absolutely! I drive a m6 convertible and figure I am the one that lives in it I do not notice much smell could be the leather does not absorb it in the way that cloth does
Drguano Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I smoke in my Roadster but only when the top is down. I've found that for some reason, cigars taste even better at 115 km/h... 2
Guest robitowitz Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I smoke in all my cars. I find leather seats hold less of the smell, but even with cloth a little airing out and mesh bag of coffee beans beneath the seat does the trick for me.Definitely a great way to enjoy a cigarSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cigcars Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 The poor unfortunate cars that have that permanent smoke odor stuck in them are the product of cigarette chain smokers. I think cigar smoke, while powerful, is still cleaner and less polluting than those poisonous cigarettes, which are responsible for so many crushing tobacco legislations these days.... 4
Guest robitowitz Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I'll add, I make it a point to remove ash and nubs promptly...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mattb82 Posted February 25, 2017 Author Posted February 25, 2017 I've cut back smoking but sometimes it may take 3 hours to drive the 40 miles or so I live outside the city with perfect traffic for a smoke. Just afraid of permanent smell 1

Gotta agree with @1LegLance on that^ Used the coffee with rentals - works a charm. In my own car I came to terms with the smell but still try to combat it by switching off the re-circ and keeping the windows cracked when parked at home. What annoys me is the ash which just seems to go everywhere. 1
rhcolbert Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I used to on a long drive, but I don't find it enjoyable
BMWBen Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 As long as I keep the window down I've never noticed a smell. I also don't do it too often though so that may be why
Capt. Brett Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Google " ozonator " it's what used car dealer to remove smoke odor from trade ins. I have a small one I use for hunting from Ozonics that works great. You just need to be carefully as to much ozone can degrade plastics. 2
chris12381 Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 With the car's climate system off, a window down just a crack creates a vacuum that will remove most smoke before it circulates around the car. That plus an ozone generator that runs off of the cigarette lighter's 9V source overnight means a car that smells clean and fresh in the morning. I've also had good luck with a dryer sheet or two tossed into the car. Smell nice but also seem to deodorize. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
soutso Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I do this every day. Given the frequency, I suspect that the smell will never go away even if I stop, but that doesn't bother me. 1
Stogieninja Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 You won't get rid of the smell 100%, but cracking windows and having foot air on high will help keep the smoke out. I use an ozium spray as well that seems to help. Also, vacuum out any ash that falls immediately. The smell will be faint, but non-smokers will be able to tell no matter what. Me, I drive a fully depreciated 93 Accord, so it doesn't matter to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
planetary Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 I'll consider it when self-driving cars are a couple generations more mature. 1

Haven't seen you around in quite some time, Lance. Welcome back.
Danimalia Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Yep, I smoke in my only car, an '08 Corolla. The car is pretty well thrashed, but it's been a trooper for me. Yeesh, lord knows how many cigars have been smoked in that car. No regrets.

kuma Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 all the time and that is one reason I bought the make and model I did. Bought a Toyota Camray with a sun roof not for just getting some sun but to to smoke my brains out! Love retracking the roof and smoking a Rob special with a cup of coffee. Man Cave on wheels. 4
JR Kipling Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Our old Dodge pick-up truck is where I smoke cigars when on the road. And I'll never get rid of it, ever.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That's the trick. I smoke in my living room (gasp, I know) but I have wood floors and leather furniture. If I toss the ash and nubs immediately after smoking, smell is gone in less than 24 hrs.
Elvis Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Top down or windows open. Don't let the cigar die in the vehicle. 1

That brings back some memories. I was 8 years old and in the back seat of a VW bug. My Dad was driving that bug like he stole it, down the winding roads of Pikes Peak, Colorado on a brisk winter day. He was smoking a Dutch Masters Panetela with his window cracked. He assured Mum that it would be fine, all the smoke would be drawn out of the vehicle. I remember three smells as a child; Kiwi boot polish, gun oil and the aroma of a Dutch Masters. I loved them all. My world started spinning and the next thing I know, a stream of vomit erupted that made it from the back seat to the front windshield. Mum was furious and Dad never smoked in the car again... 9
