I am sorry brother. It does not look good. If it is on the foot you just do not know how far it goes into the cigar. You can try to clean the ones that do not have any mold on the foot. But those I would not smoke. Maybe someone has some better advice? I hope you can save most.

Bro, this looks bad.

I think they were down deep. Clean the cigars, separate them, and down the humidification.

More advices will com from other members.

My guess would be the temperature in the room you keep the Emsa dropped quite a bit since you put them in ( or did you move the container to a cooler room ? ).

I always place a hygro in it for at least a week and keep the temperature as constant as possible.

As mentioned above, clean them, dry (slowly) down and watch out for further mold. Not much else you can do at this point.

I would too, but cut a bit off the foot ( of the ones that appear to be affectet at the foot ) to see how deep the mold has grown into the filler.

Seems you got a proper stock of Petit Robustos all of a sudden 001blink.gif

My advice would be - before starting to wipe the mould off, first bring your humidity down. Once stabilized you may start to care for the single sticks (though certainly not good, this actually doesn't look too serious yet).

And put a hygrometer in - permanently!

Addendum: As @losttrailer already said, while the box is airtight, temperature changes will be the biggest foe in your case. I'd suspect, you packed them in there just as you received them from shipping. It is important to always get the sticks acclimated before locking in in a closed confinement. Therefore, even when using such a container without passive humidifyer (indeed not advisable), always include a reliable hygrometer for monitoring.

EEK.  I agree that the ones with the mold in the foot would be trimmed before I would smoke them or at least seriously toasted.  That being said, I would still just wipe down and smoke.  The only real important thing to do is get a handle on the storage conditions.

I have to know.. what is the RH / Temp in your humi?

One of the worst cases of mold I have seen. If the foot is clean, wipe it off and smoke. I would pitch the ones that had mold in the foot. I might as a last resort clip it back a half inch...

It was very easy to wipe the mold from the wrapper and to scrape it off from the foot. The cigars look perfekt now. The problem: I know how they looked before....

I would not smoke any of the cigars that have mold on the foot. There is no telling how deep it goes.

@Guybrush, please don't avoid the question. What RH / Temp do you keep your cigars? ...there's a story here that we've yet to hear.

thx!

Horse may already have left the barn here, but one thing I like to do:

Always keep a hygrometer in the container whether opaque or translucent.  I have found that the wireless ones (such as Oregon Scientific type of weather station) makes it awfully easy to monitor what's going on inside the container.   You can synce multiple hygros to some of those weathwr stations too which came in handy for me. My old set up in my home office  was out of sight, out of mind, and the weather station allowed me to keep an eye on conditions whilst standing in the kitchen, no problem. Bonus, when you open the container the information is displayed on the unit kept inside the container as well.   I've had the humidity stay really high in a container holding several new shipments and found I had to open it daily or more to help excess moisture escape.

Just an idea....

Good luck!
