Since every country prohibits torch lighter, I decided to go with Iroda torch lighters since its refill cell looks like disposable lighters, etc which makes it safer compared to other torch lighters such as Maxijet according to many cigar forums include the FOH. Before making a purchase, I have a question about Iroda torch lighters. Sadly, in Korea, nobody sells Iroda RC-30 separately and even worse, MJ-330 and MJ-340 are the only Iroda torch lighters that come with Iroda RC-30  (MJ-300 does not come with RC-30 at all, how strange it is). Will there be no problem if I bring MJ-330 or MJ-340 to airports safely (I only have two choices, MJ-330 or MJ-340 due to the above mentioned reason).

P.S.

  • Luckily, I manged to find a local B&M which sells Davidoff cigar matches (both small and large sizes). Is it okay to bring Davidoff cigar matches to the airport as well?
  • Thankfully, there is a vendor who sells MJ-300 with RC-30 on the local website ^_^.
  • Where can I get Iroda RC-30 (there is a seller who sells it on the Amazon but seller's reputation deters me to purchase)?
  • Is there any decent equipment case for carrying Cuban Crafters Perfect Cigar Cutter, Iroda torch lighter?
  • Oopsie daisy, I accidentally post with same contents due to lagging. I am really sorry for that (please remove previous one instead of this).

I had no idea that anyone banned torch lighters. I have never had a problem with bringing them but always had them packed in my computer bag or luggage so perhaps something that I just haven't had a problem with yet and didn't know.

You've simply been lucky. Torch lighters are not allowed on person or in checked luggage and may be removed if they find them.

Give the FOH torch a try.  I have nothing but luck with it.  I have not yet tried it on an aircraft (don't fly but maybe once a year now) but I hear it gets through due to the fact it can be separated and one part will not work without the other (no strike wheel on the cartridge).

You've just gotten away with it.  If it's a torch you cherrish, leave it home!  A pal got a new Xikar torch from his wife.  Didn't realize it was in his bag and he flew PHX to ABQ.   Not a word mentioned.   On the way back they noticed and relieved him of it.

He was quite dissapointed.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't own a torch over $20 but I have been thinking about getting a nice one soon so good to know.

No problem!

TSA regs allow a Bic style lighter here in the States IIRC.   I usually use whatever I can find wherever I end up travelling and have never carried a lighter with me.   Matches are allowed as well and I used to have a small box in my back pack, but I don't believe there are any in there now.

A few months ago I had to fly from New York (KHPN) to West palm Beach (KPBI). I took both my soft flame and my torch Xikar lighters with me in my carry-on bag. I had no problem going down but on the way back the TSA confiscated my torch. My daughter volunteered to take the lighter out to my wife who returned to the airport to get it from her. The TSA agent told me that torch lighters were verboten but there was no problem with the soft flame,  and he was having none of it when I lprotested that is was not a problem on the way down. Of course when my wife returned home the following week she had forgotten to bring it and had left it in Florida, and I've been torchless ever since. Ah well...maybe an FOH torch is in my future...

Thanks for leaving massive replies to me ^_^! I would like to know if there are other ways to bring/send a torch lighter to another country except airline too (I really prefer Prince GT-3000S over Iroda's since GT-3000S has more power, better design compared to Iroda torch).

P.S.

  • I am not a big fan of soft flame lighters other than torch lighters and cigar matches.

Mailing empty torch lighters is perfectly fine :)

Depending on where you're traveling too, you might be better off just buying one at your destination. I buy $10 Jetline torches that work pretty well, and I never cry when I lose one. I also wouldn't hesitate to take my chances stashing one in my checked luggage,

I haven't used the FOH style torch, but that might be a good solutions, too.

The FOH torch is the answer.  Once disassembled it is perfectly legal for carrying onboard.  I've had mine inspected at security and all was fine since, once you take it apart, the core is just a disposable soft flame.  I've flown with this baby many many times in the U.S. and Internationally and it's never been a problem.

Soft flame and disassembled torches are ok in Hong Kong.  I've also had those cleared with no problem flying into Shanghai once or twice, so maybe I just got lucky then, but in Hong Kong you're good to go.

You can buy a disposable to put in your FOH torch when you land, but not any disposable (Bics won't work for example).  IIRC the ones you want are stamped "RSK" or something like that.  Slightly different shape and commonly available.

Flying in was OK, flying out of any airport in mainland China, every single implement for making fire was taken off me - including the Iroda.

Here's another vote for the FOH lighter.  Great lighter, especially for the money.  Works first try every time.

After I read some responses, I might end up with getting the FOH lighter. I am going to send a mail to Di for ordering the FOH lighter and additional refill fuel cells as fast as possible I can ;).

Yeah, it is really sad to say that China prohibits any kind of flame source, even the FOH lighter too :(. I am really feel sorry for your loss.

Hey LG,

Was your Iroda in 3 pieces?  Or assembled and working?  I find that when I take the top and bottom apart and the fuel out, that it never even gets questioned.

Since I cannot bring triple refined butane, lubricant spray to airplane (such as WD-40, it is classified as explosive material), will any B&M refill torch lighter, clean cigar cutter for me if I ask?

In my experience, yes, at least on the first item. My local B&M keeps a can of butane at the cutting station for customers to refill themselves.

It was in two pieces. They let me keep the plastic bottom piece and confiscated the top with the flame part.
