Nino Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Just found this interesting article. Reading the figures for landing fees charged per passenger in HAV it explains the high airfares paid by charters from the US. Might go down ... But where has all that money from the landing fees gone ?? Terminal 2 which is also used by European carriers is a warehouse joke and you never find an open stall to buy a beer once outside .... http://www.tbo.com/news/politics/cuba-poised-to-slash-landing-fees-as-commercial-flights-near-20160405/
btp1979 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I'm hoping South West will add a flight out of Houston to Havana. I'm 2 miles from their Houston hub!
El Presidente Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I do hope they go down! All I know is that my return Miami-Panama-Cuba flight is half the cost of Brisbane LAX return 1
Bartolomeo Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Talked to John about this yesterday, hoping flight prices come down later this year for Nov trip, sounds like it's looking better each day 1

Have you heard anything about when US flight might open up. I know there talking about direct flights from both MPLS and Atlanta but I don't know if they'll be running by Nov.

Looks like they're hoping for a September start. That would be great. 1
Ryan Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 If prices from the US go down, it will probably be temporary. Air France currently have 11 flights per week into Havana. In November there will be 18, plus another 10 into other Cuban airports, probably Varadero. Even with more than double the number of flights, prices are going up. I'm receiving email "special offers" of return flights to Havana from Air France for €850, 2 years ago a standard price was €700. Jose Marti airport only has one runway. The international terminal has 8 jetways. Prices won't stay down for long. As well as more US travelers, there are more Europeans. To see Cuba "before it changes" and millions of Europeans used to go to Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt for winter sun. Used to. Not as many anymore. 1
