Hope this isn't old news and if so, sorry.

The Palio cutter I bought 4-5 years ago broke a few weeks ago (part of the track simply deformed and I still cannot figure out how). I took it back to the store I bought it at (with the little warranty card and case) and tried to exchange it.

The friendly shopkeep informed me that the Palio company was bought a while ago and the new owner DOES NOT HONOR THE LIFETIME WARRANTY ANYMORE. She told me that she's been exhanging the cutters out when people bring them in broken with the last few Palios she has in stock and taking a lo$$ (she's a great businesswoman), but Palio refuses to exchange them with her. Of course, they still call her and try to get her to order more, but that warranty is out the window, cross the rooftops, run away. As a result, she has decided to stop carrying that brand of cutter, and now offers the Xikar cutter in that price range. I made sure to buy the rest of their Angel's Share and a handful of SG Hemingways as a thank you gesture.

Long story short (too late), one of the main reasons I bought a Palio has gone out the window. Sure, folks could probably file with the Better Business Bureau or somebody, but that can be a hassle and I'll just switch to a different brand.

Just an FYI for anyone in the market for a new, reliable, affordable cutter. Xikar has great reviews.

EDIT:

To be clear, the old Palios were owned by "Brothers of the Leaf" and the little metal crest on the cutter said "BOTL" and had a horse rearing up on it. I don't know if the new ones have a different crest, but the new owners are "Quality Importers Trading Co."

I actually emailed about getting a replacement and got a reply that if I send in my old one and $7 for shipping they would send me a new one. I also emailed a local shop in Indianapolis asking if they would replace it and they said they would, so I will probably exchange it the next time I head down there.

Cool! I emailed and never got a response (I knew my regular shop stopped carrying them a few years ago). I called and was told that I had to exchange it with a shop... that they didn't do direct replacement. I guess it all depends on who's answering the phone/email!

Are they the producers of all that humi line made in China?

The web site still says to register for the Lifetime Warranty.

I think their warranty covers the new ones, but not the old BOTL ones (I guess "lifetime warranty" means different things to different people). Who knows how long until they decide to not honor the new warranties?

Sounds like pride in a Duran Duran song... ok.gif

BTW, I've always had Xikar cutters...have several in regular use. One started messing up. Sent it back and they returned a brand new one.

So my Palio is now a collectors item having that BOTL crest? :)

In regard to the Warranty, I'd have to say I would still make a complaint direct to the new owners. Surely they were aware of Palios warranty, it was one of the things that set themselves apart and why I also purchased purely because whenever any company can give a lifetime warranty on their product, it's almost bragging rights to state that they stand behind their product.

It's not about the money, it's the principle IMO. ;)

The only thing my Palio is good for is taking pics of my cigars....I prefer the "Perfect Cutter" From Cubancrafters.com. I've had mine for almost 5yrs, and never had an issue with it.

Sorry you are having issues with your Palio, and I hope they come to their senses. The cigar community is small, but we are also loud!

Totally agree, i have a Palio and IMO it is highly overrated, i much prefer my Cuban Crafters perfect cutter.

I like Palio. Great slicing cutter with the thinnest blades. My Palio went 9 years before I exchanged it under warranty. The blades still cut great by I lost resistance on the decent and the cutter would pull completely apart with little effort.

I've had my replacement BOTL Palio for about 3 years and it's still in great shape. I rate the Palio on par with my other favorite cutters (perfect cutter, Xikars, Casetti) in terms of function.

Mine's pretty much knackered now after 7 years of use. I've just e-mailed the supplier, will see what they say.

Pulled the trigger on a Fox Cigar Cutter, fell for them as soon at first sight.

Good Morning Joe

Yes these cutters still come with a life time guarantee.

I will need to contact our suppliers to check if we are able to send this off for you or if the cutter will need to go straight back to them.

I will reply shortly with an answer.

Regards,

I love Palio cutters.

If they offered a 7 year warranty I don't think they would sell one less.

Is it my memory or are they about half the price today that they use to be?

This has been my 'go to' for many years. Never lets me down. Perfectly sharp. IMG_20201021_221401.jpg.a3da7c10ae3f95bd3f9b7bf4697d9b6b.jpg

Gone up £3 in 7 years, can't fault it.

They've confirmed they still have a lifetime repair or replace guarantee, they just supplied a form and I'll send it back to the supplier to deal with. Lovely.
