Guest scsi Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Seems like you have to be very careful about what you comment about these days You might offend somebody, God Lord, we can't have that My post of the death of Antonin Gregory Scalia was struck down because people are cowards I have no doubt this post will be stuck down as well
planetary Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Behold the forum commandments. Number 2 might be of interest. Almost any community-based forum which has stood the test of time has developed its own codes to cope with the trolls who enjoy nothing more than to stir the pot from the comfort of their own anonymity -- and, indeed, the misanthropes who like to cast a pall on everything. 2

If anyone is incapable of forming a cohesive dicsussion without inciting others to a flame war. Find somewhere else. If anyone feels the need to respond in an agressive manner to a particular post, find somewhere else. You can report it to mods, but if you are deemed to be super sensative then we will tell you. It is never always balck and white, there is some grey. However if you continually play in the grey then you will be tagged wih the tar brush. Kindergarden stopped before you started wearing long pants. As mods we don't dress you. If you can't dress yourselves and come to a forum in a respectful manner then you can honestly bugger off. 8

Jeez, even I feel told off after that and I didn't even do anything Even in text, it seems Robs "Dad Voice" is strong 4
El Presidente Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Jeez, even I feel told off after that and I didn't even do anything Even in text, it seems Robs "Dad Voice" is strong I detest forum policy enforcement. Every mod does. FOH is for FOH members. Put them first in how you post and you can't go wrong. It isn't rocket science. Which reminds me, ken must be almost due back from mod suspension. 2

There are others on the 30 day vacation. The resort should be quite booked. I don't get to read everything on a Sunday. I was fighting ants at the fricking picnic. Thanks to the mods who closed it down. The detail can always be done on a Monday. Ken, you are the master of Saturday/Sunday questionable posts. You seem to know full well when the Deathstars defences are at their weakest

You do not maintain this forum, you pay nothing to be a part of it, and have no ownership of the forum. In short, you have nothing to complain about if the owner of the site decides a rule has been broken and acts in the manner he (or his designees) sees fit. I had a post taken down once because I violated a rule; it was complimentary of Rob's staff, but it still broke a rule. You know what I did? I went back and reread the rules to make sure I knew better the next time. Sheesh, whatever happened to taking your punishment like a man? Learn from this and stay and enjoy the community or don't and find someplace that better suits your particular sensibility. But for the sake of whatever you find holy, don't WHINE about it. I just hate this attitude of "I can say whatever I want wherever I want!" Even my 8-year old knows better than that.
Guest Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Instead of whining about "censorship in a new age"... perhaps consider applying decorum, and respect....and the rest will take care of itself.
Fugu Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Without any doubt, there were some extremely offensive and unnecessary posts, which weren't even related to politics, and I was surprised to see for how long that had been tolerated. Could have been solved perhaps by taking single posts out, for the sake of the interesting general discussion. But it seems mined territory, so I can understand Rob's decision to take it down. Paul
Scrubber Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I'm all for debates and I love controversy but some of the comments in that thread were just plain grubby and disrespectful, particularly given the timing. Rules are rules. If you want to be a member then you need to abide by the rules. If you don't like the forum rules, too bad. You either follow them or leave. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Fuzz Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I won't speak for my fellow mods, but one of the things I hate doing is cleaning up a thread. Hiding/deleting specific posts in a thread has it's own pitfalls, with calls of unnecessary censorship or heavy-handedness being thrown around. Moderating on FOH, for most of the time, is fairly easy. That speaks volumes about members conduct in general. When we do take action, it is only in accordance with the rules and the ideals of the forum. 4

Guyman1966 Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I am usually reluctant to jump in and post my thoughts on American Politics, but you all are*******. Furthermore, I feel strongly that *** ***** ** **** *** *** **! Seriously!
sactochris Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 It must have really gone down hill fast. I had posted a couple of times on the thread.
jwr0201 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Crap, I missed the good stuff! As you said, must have gone juvenile quickly. Pitty, since it was looking to be a good thread. Good call to remove under the circumstances. As for attempting to discuss American politics in a civil manner...can't be done. Probably the numero uno subject guaranteed to be out of control in short order. Much easier to discuss sex or religion.
PigFish Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I for one am not bashful about reporting posts. It is why we have mods (unfortunately). I also moderate a forum, and I get it... It is not really a fun and rewarding job. And just when you think you are dealing with reasonable people, if you are dumb enough tell someone that you moderated them, you cannot dodge the bullets fast enough...! Trust me, the persons with the least amount of patience and understanding are always the ones that scream the most about being compelled to be civil... Look mates, I reported posts on that thread! I also posted to it but refrained from piking anyone's head (IMHO). Perhaps my post was reported as well. The thread is gone and I am over it... Getting mad at forum administrators over the event just makes the situation even worse. Frankly, objectively, the thread content was not worth shedding a tear over (again, MHO). If I had to offer any advice to any member, don't hold your posts so dear. You don't own the threads once they are up, and if you feel that you have created a masterpiece, write in a word processor and copy and paste your comments so you can save your masterpiece for you memoirs. Once you post it, while it might have been your original thoughts, it is no longer your property. If you think that society is beyond drawing a mustache and glasses on your masterpiece, you are dreaming and you had better wake up or the next guy is going to wake you with a pail of cold water. I for one am glad that there is proactive moderation on this forum and since I am not exactly a wall flower, I have lost my share of posts... Get over it, for your own sake, and for the sake of a peaceful coexistence with other members. There are plenty of places on the web to post hatred. Would you not be sorry if this was one such place? I would be. Cheers! -Piggy 1
El Presidente Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Cheers Piggy. I see it the same way. The last time we had to step in and knock heads was October which is a miracle on forums We do not hold grudges. If you are given some time in the Bin or have posts removed (I have told mods never to edit) then move on, adjust your behaviour and all is sweet. If you come back and start again, it will be a quick and final farewell. If you go off and start sending offensive e-mails or post elsewhere (as in Youtube yesterday) that we are a pack of ***** then seriously screw you and the horse you rode in on. I don't care how much you buy, we won't service tossers or permit them on FOH. Reporting threads helps us out. We can't as mods be across every thread every minute of the day. If we had to be then I would just cut the lesions until we didn't have to be. Yet reporting threads doesn't mean we will take the same opinion as yourself. We go back to the rule book that has served FOH well. Don't be overly sensative. read an offending post and make the decision to report it only if you honestly believe it is against the forum ethos. Frienship, laughter, fraternity, loyalty. Loyalty is to each other. 3
perkinke Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Someone took this to YouTube??? Isn't that kind of like showing up at your girlfriends workplace after she dumps you and crying in the parking lot? I mean, just pathetic.
