Ken Gargett Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 we talked about this a while back - basically, when you win the toss you bat first 9 times out of ten. the 10th, you think about sending the opposition in and then bat. just saw a stat - seems incredible but 'an official source' so unless they have made an error - that the captain winning the toss in the last 15 tests in nz has sent the opposition in. every single time. amazing. that includes this test where sri lanka have sent nz in and nz now 1-200ish. the results are that the side winning the toss has a 2-5 win/loss record (surprising number of draws).
dicko Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 That seems incorrect doesn't it KG? If it is correct, perhaps its something to do with the weather and greenery over that way makes it look good for bowling...not sure.

If it is correct, perhaps its something to do with the weather and greenery over that way makes it look good for bowling...not sure. it does seem improbable. checked out a few and there are quite a lot of 'sending in of the opposition' but certainly not 15 straight. not sure where the guys on the official site got it wrong. but certainly more than usual.
JohnS Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 It does seem improbable to send the opposition in that many times, even in matches in New Zealand. I still concur with the traditional view of setting up the game by batting first.
