Deodato Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I've only smoked five out of the box since I bought these RA Extras and they have all been godawful... bitter, acrid urgh. If only they were forgettable too. But this sixth one today is a revelation. Rich chocolatey stewed fruit... I don't want it to end. Having slagged these things off for four years I just thought I should put that out there 2

LeafLover Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Really?!!! Can this be true. I had 25 bad experiences with this cigar and I stare at my second intact box with disdain. I hope this is true. Maybe I will wait another year nevertheless for good measure.

Having slagged these things off for four years I just thought I should put that out there ... that sounds like a wet cigar mate! Man, if these things are spongy, wait for the dry season and let them dry out a lot before you smoke them. Not that I wish to tell anyone what to do with their cigars, nor should I, but from what you just described, that cigar simply sounds like one with too much water! Best of luck on the rest! Cheers! -Piggy Oh, and Arnie, the dry weather we are having just might help yours. Cut one and leave it out for a week or more and give it a try. Since you don't like them, there is nothing lost in the gamble. Since we are expecting a wet winter, you can send me one and I will store it for you at 60rH and send it back in the summer. It would be interesting to weigh it, put it in my humidor and weigh it again at the end of 6 months. Cheers! -R

mk05 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 ...only smoked five...sixth one...is a revelation. If you dig long enough in Africa, you can find a diamond. Try another one.

LeafLover Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Ray, I'm set at 58 rh for couple years now. Dry boxed them too. I feel like I've been pranked. As though customs, unbranded my cigars, put them on cigars from cigars international, put them back in the box and sent them to me. If u haven't tried, would love to hear your take on it. 1
PigFish Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 ...Hmmm. That's too bad! The OP's description just sounded too wet to me. Been dry enough for you lately? I left a PLPC rolling around on my desk a few days and it was as crisp as a cracker. Good smoke though... Yeah, what the hell I will try one, but you don't have to go out of your way. I will send you back a good cigar in its place. I guess when I see one, I will know what you are talking about. You know me, I don't go around chasing the McRib sandwich... Maybe I will head over to Trevor's site and see what the hell I am bargaining for... -LOL I am guessing it is not going to be as good as an RAPC. Those are good cigars!!! I'm sorry, were good cigars! LMK. -R
Deodato Posted November 15, 2015 Author Posted November 15, 2015 Ray: I too blamed moistness, impatience, shipping conditions, Neptune transiting Venus etc. for the terrible experience I had with the first one... but only Ramon Allones are responsible for sticks 2-5.
nick2021 Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Good to hear you had a positive experience with these. Reviews have always been all over the place on these.....
DougB Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 When I first tried these when they came out I was blown away by the stewed fruit- figs-in-port- deliciousness that I found in them. I bought a handful of boxes only to find that most of the cigars that I sampled did not come close to that sticky, mouth-coating sample that I had initially. I was fortunate to experience a few really good ones a few times but I then came to the conclusion that they were a rarity as the majority were not smokable. Glad you found one of those sweet ones. They are really great when they taste like that.

You make a good point my friend! You see from my end, I don't believe in brand profiles. One of the interesting things about CC's is the fact that they are not very consistent. Therefore duds are a reality, but entire dud boxes are a rarity. I have had two dud boxes in my life of smoking Habanos. No use debating the point mate, they are (were) your cigars and you are the final arbiter. I was just tossing darts at the stock market pages, hoping for a winner! Sorry the cigars were so awful. I believe that storage is the only thing that the 'shepherd' can do for his cigars. The only changes we can make have to do with water content. You cannot make a bad cigar a good cigar. It is what it is! -R
