genevapics Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 For me, I am only able to enjoy a cigar if I am relaxing. I need to just be "kicking back" and enjoying the fine flavors of a cuban. I cannot smoke a cigar doing any of the following: - cutting the lawn - washing the car - playing golf - yard work - any type of work that requires me to stand!:-D Is it me? Is there something wrong with me? I can enjoy a cigar while doing paperwork. Or writing. In an essence, I need to be sitting/lounging to really enjoy my smoke. For me, smoking a cigar is MY time to relax. I don't know, maybe I am just a little off center, but I just cannot enjoy my cigar any other way. How about you. Where do you like to smoke your cigar?
Shooter Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 A nice atmosphere to enjoy the cigar in is paramount. I'm fortunate to have a "smoking room" with a quiet ceiling fan and like to put on some classical or other "soft" music while enjoying my "restful smoke." To me, that's even better than sitting in a noisy--albeit "cigar-friendly" establishment. Second favorite spot is anywhere with friends who also enjoy cigars--regardless of the noise factor. I just have to adjust and still can have a "hoot!" (Like a good herf for instance) Third favorite spot would have to be the golf cart--with a friend of course. My game usually suffers a bit, but if it's a casual outting (as most are), then a nice cigar while enjoying the peace and serenity of a nice course and the game itself is pretty darn nice. Good topic--Happy New Year!:-)
CIGARHead Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 My favorite time to enjoy a cigar is with friends that enjoy smoking. I just set up a game room and have been hanging out there. Im with you on sitting down, relaxing. I def enjoy the relaxing aspect as well as being able to concentrate on the cigar and nothing else. That being said, I think "enjoyment" of a cigar for me could be two different things. 1, what I just said about relaxing..and 2, the enjoyment of fine cigars with good friends shootin the ****, and more than a coulpe drinks in hand. I might not be devoting all my time and thoughts on the cigar, but the atmosphere and laughs make that enjoyable as well. Great topic by the way.

Troy Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 It is always nice to enjoy a smoke with friends however I only have one friend who shares my passion and doesn't lecture me about the health issues for an hour while I try to enjoy a good churchill or monte no 2. So, most of the time I find myself lighting up in my library by myself - and that suits me just fine.
twoodruff Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I smoke in the back yard and at the local brick and mortar
Loki Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 Any cigar friendly bar with friends will do. My friend Andy and I go out for smokes once a week. My favorite place to smoke would be in camp after backpacking in to a nice site. The woods can be such a quiet and soothing place. I also enjoy smoking while hiking as long as the trail isn't too steep. The cigar slows the pace a bit which is fine with me. :-)
Colt45 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I agree with not really doing anything while smoking. I prefer a relaxed situation, and I usually smoke alone. But I also enjoy smoking with like minded friends when the opportunity arises. Rummy, where've you been?!
Ginseng Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 I most often smoke in solitude. It's my private time. Typically I'm in the garage reading an article or book. However, I have been known to smoke while at dinner parties, in the hot tub, walking through the woods. The cigar always figures in the experience. It's simply a question of the centrality of its role in the experience. Is it what I am focused on? Or is it a bridge between two people and their ideas? Wilkey
Mel Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 I like to be seated for a smoke and ussually smoke alone. I have only a mate or two that smokes with me and I enjot that time but solitude is the norm. I read a while back about a guy who got ill smoking during a five mile hike. No **** Sherlock! I agree that the woods are a great place period and if the wind is not up I smoke during turkey hunting and after the deer hunt. The hot tub is nice in the winter and the pool deck is fine in the summer if it is not to hot. I ussually do not like to smoke in the hot sun. My new smoking room is the best. TV. leather furnature and fire place. The cabin in the woods is where a friend and I are heading for the weekend to close out the deer season. Gonna be smokin the best I got.
cobra Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 In the Great Midwest (Chicagoland) we are in the throughs of winter, which means 8 months of plan B. As an overworked Emergency Physician (as I have taken a pledge to qualify myself) I can work 3 different shifts a week, which for me means no existing sleep habbits. I recently bought an Oreck air cleaner which apparently works well enough for the wife to accept the neccessary indulgence the Cubans allows me. As soon as the clan calls it a night I find my sanctuary in a basement family room in front of the TV, where I can tune out and turn on till dawn. I think I enjoy cigars much more when solo. Fishing seems to be a common thread amongst cigar smokers, and I have read in past forums that many also find refuge in their garage, and I also longfully look forward to warmer times in my garage while playing mechanic working on/staring at my Shelby. Any other car guys' out there?
Mel Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Fishing- Biggest problem is casting and unhooking all the fish. I canoe a river for smallmouth on a fly in the summer and holding the cigar and fishing/boat management can be a conflicting. I now have my priorities straight and smoke first and fish second. Exception is if the boat is sideways in a shoal and turning over. Live bait drifting is the best method to combine with the cigars.
El Presidente Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Welcome back you demented git :-D Fishing is my favourite. I amaze myself at how I can cast a fly and land a fish with a Habanos firmly in play. It has taken years of practice and yes there are casualties....but such are the wages of life. Anywhere with friends will do me. Cooking the Saturday BBQ also is a cracker. Friday afternoons on the rocking chairs at the humidor. Hunting amimals with a poor sense of smell. Heading Fishing or hunting in the old Landrover, windows down and singing along to an old Elvis Costello CD.

I understand that once while casting, your hook accidentally caught the SLRDC you had just lit, and when you reeled it in, Ken was firmly hooked! Rob, it is precisely because such superhuman accomplishments, that the Angels want to wear your red shoes...
smk819 Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 The back porch in warm reather, and the library/office in cold. When cigar smoking friends are visiting the whole house with the exception of the bedroom is open for smoking. I also have my 20 minute HDM Midi in the morning on the way to work.

J-ROD Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Any where I can get away with it. Usually playing cards with the guys or chillin out in my basement with friends and/or family.
The Prince Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 » Any where I can get away with it. Usually playing cards with the guys or » chillin out in my basement with friends and/or family. I enjoy smoking in my library, outside, and while driving in the car. I feel I really have to while driving. Otherwise, I get bored. I also enjoy a cigar while golfing.
guilow Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 I thought I could smoke "doing yard work", etc. But since I converted to only Cubans, I can't stand wasting a good cigar while doing work related activities. I even bought some MMs as yard gars, but they too are way too good to waste while working. I've gotta sit down and enjoy my cigars. I do like to smoke will hiking tho.
MrQ Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 In the summer I'm out on the back patio and in the winter I'll smoke near the fire place inside. Its nice too when I play with the band at a cigar friendly club.
Wiley Posted January 3, 2006 Posted January 3, 2006 Walking the dog, and sitting on the front stoop, almost exclusively.

spsurfin Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 I really enjoy smoking while watering the fruit trees, then lounging in the yard. Otherwise, I go to the local cigar shop.
