I have to admit, i dont have the palate many of you have. But i enjoy cigars none the less!!

It seems like the first third of many cigars, it just doesnt peak my interest much. Many just give me a pepper or leather profile predominately.

But as the cigar warms up it gets better. Seems like the last half is always my favorite.

Although im not new to cigars... i consider myself very much a newb :)

Is this normal or just me?! Haha

The terms hay, divine and slurry were once popular to describe the three sections of a cigar. Thought is that as the tars and oils collect the character changes form start to finish.

There's a great thread here which details how people vary in their ability to define taste in cigars/wine. Is it normal or just you? The answer could be both. Do you gravitate towards stronger cigars rather than mild ones? You may prefer a strong tobacco taste in your cigars rather than subtle flavours. If so, that defines your palate and there's nothing wrong with that as the enjoyment of cigars is highly subjective.

I get what you are talking about. I would say my favourite part of most cigars is the second third and beginning of the final third.

I find that by the second third the flavours really intensify and I am able to pick them up a lot better. The first third I can get the flavours but I need to really concentrate. Obviously it depends on the cigar but that's what I have found in general to my tastes.

I'm still a newbie too so maybe that explains it for both of us.

I've found the pairing can influence things a lot. I will sometimes change mid-cigar and have found it very beneficial if I choose correctly.
