mygar Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I have to admit, i dont have the palate many of you have. But i enjoy cigars none the less!! It seems like the first third of many cigars, it just doesnt peak my interest much. Many just give me a pepper or leather profile predominately. But as the cigar warms up it gets better. Seems like the last half is always my favorite. Although im not new to cigars... i consider myself very much a newb Is this normal or just me?! Haha
Habana Mike Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 The terms hay, divine and slurry were once popular to describe the three sections of a cigar. Thought is that as the tars and oils collect the character changes form start to finish.

Haha There's a great thread here which details how people vary in their ability to define taste in cigars/wine. Is it normal or just you? The answer could be both. Do you gravitate towards stronger cigars rather than mild ones? You may prefer a strong tobacco taste in your cigars rather than subtle flavours. If so, that defines your palate and there's nothing wrong with that as the enjoyment of cigars is highly subjective. Popular Post Colt45 Posted November 7, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 7, 2015 I'm kind of the opposite. I often find the initial draws of a cigar to be the cleanest and most flavorful, while more often than not, flavor tends to become darker and more muddled toward the end. Mike hit on it - I might add that personally, I think construction plays a part in how "clean" flavors stay throughout. 5

I would say my favourite part of most cigars is the second third and beginning of the final third. I find that by the second third the flavours really intensify and I am able to pick them up a lot better. The first third I can get the flavours but I need to really concentrate. Obviously it depends on the cigar but that's what I have found in general to my tastes. I'm still a newbie too so maybe that explains it for both of us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mygar Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 Thanks for the replies... and will check out the articles. Im rather new to cc's but so far my favorite is bolivar. Love the partagas lusitania as well.
ElPuro Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 I've found the pairing can influence things a lot. I will sometimes change mid-cigar and have found it very beneficial if I choose correctly.
