Andy04 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I have a Royal Corona that has been laying about the office for the past few months. I cut it months back, but still yet to smoke it. This morning I placed it on my desk, reached for a pen and knocked the cigar off the desk. It to the ground head first resulting in the wrapper leaf around the head cracking making the stick almost unsmokable in a conventional manner. Instead of wasting good tobacco, I will light the head and smoke from the foot. Will this have any effect on the taste of the stick?
CigarAsh Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I don't know about taste being impacted but the wrapper will start to unravel on you as soon as you burn past the vegetable gum that was applied near the head. 1
MIKA27 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 In theory it shouldn't taste/smoke different however I think you need to give it a go and let us know your findings. 1
JackFNQ Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Cigar surgury, what's that vegetable gelatine/gum?
Ribeye Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Gum Arabic You should be able to buy a small bottle in a craft store.
JackFNQ Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Gum Arabic Yeah that's it, might also have another name, vegetable pectin?
CaptainQuintero Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Supposedly leaves are placed with the tip pointing away from you when the cigar is being constructed. So the cigar starts mild and builds in intensity as you start to progress along the leaves getting closer to the fuller bodied 'stem side' of the leaf. Whether the backwards smoking experience would reflect this I've no idea!
DoubleDD Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 You are going to throw off the solar system and it could have devastating results on humanity. ? 2
LordAnubis Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I once smoked an H Upmann Sir Winston from the foot. THe cigar was fine, nothing wrong with it. I was told by a friend to do it so i did. Didn't cut it or anything, just set the torch on the cap of the cigar and away it went. That particular cigar had no problems with unraveling etc... I was prepared to keep the band as high up on the cigar as i could and keep pushing it down as the burn got down but never needed to. Smoking experience wise it was not detrimental to the enjoyment i don't think... not that i recall anyway.

Pixa Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Yeah that's it, might also have another name, vegetable pectin? Different things, but have heard of people using both. I still have the same tiny bottle of pectin for years so stick with that
rmill3r Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Unless it was the last Royal Corona I had left, I would tear it to shreds and stick in a pipe to see how it worked... 1
Notsocleaver Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Cracked heads like you describe I usually just patch with top cap of the triple cap and some pectin. I have discovered that on some cigars with tight draws that lighting the head and smoking from foot actually results in an easier draw. I'm guessing its because the tighter part of the roll gets smoked first. I dunno
