Love the number 2 - stunning!

But I also do love a long smoke - haven't sampled the JL 1 yet- is there much difference in the blend or fairly similar?

Looking at my notes from some years ago and for what is worth (anyone has his/her own tastes and preferences), here is how I would compare the two:

Seleccion no 1:

A very nice mild cigar. Floral and woody with some pepper in the end. Round and relaxing but not sufficently complex in the end.

Seleccion no 2:

A dream-come-true cigar. Wonderful taste: cedar and vanilla in the first third; leather, dark coffee and bit of honey in the second; leather, dark coffee and pepper in the final.

Best,

Michel

These are both very good cigars IMHO.

The JL Sel #2 at one point was my daily cigar. But as I moved away from the robusto and more towards the corona gorda I found that I liked the JL Sel #1 better.

In my view it really comes down to which vitola you prefer with these two.

I think this is right, in my limited experience. I actually prefer corona gorda's, but the No. 2 has a lot more going for it...not that the No. 1's are bad, or anything.

Funny, your description of the No. 1 is exactly how I would characterize the No. 2! Palates are personal I guess! :cigar:

Same experience for me; I would add that best No.2 can offer a note of custard.

Anyway, to me the No.2 has always been superior to the No.1, which is often less true to the marca IMO.

Admittedly my sample size of the two is very small (about five Seleccion No. 2s and only one Seleccion No. 1), but the No. 2s were too spicy and dry for me. Not that that's a bad thing, as that can be right up some people's alley, but the No. 2 was all cedar and pepper. It reminded me of a lot of NCs I've had, but in a bad way. My first Seleccion No. 1 from the other night was quite the opposite. It definitely still had the spice, but it was more subdued and in the background, and it was mixed with a creamy blend of flavors of floral and vanilla with more like baking spices coming in and out in the background.

I have to try more of the No. 1 and possibly more of the No. 2 to really get a handle on it, but from my limited experience the No. 1 was not only a better size overall but just a better smoke. All No. 2s I've had have been two harsh (even after resting in a humidor for quite a while).

JL #1 for me ( small sample) have been lemon...maybe some cream too. This was one of first habanos box for me. It has taught me Alot about difference between CC and NC....First few I smoked too fast (while drunk) and was getting soapy flavors. After putting away for couple... Really enjoying!

JL#2...got a box from El Prez....5 hit dry box the other day... Soon they are all mine...hahahaha :greedilyrubbinghandstogether

thanks for the notes and advice everybody!

Will grab a few singles and will sacrifice them to the flame :)

Small sample here as well, but I find myself liking the no.1 a lot more. I will need to try more no.2s from different boxes. The way people are praising the no.2 is making me wonder if I got a dud box.

Have a box of #2 in my rotation since some time and like the cigar. Just recently added a box of #1. First samples seemed a lot lighter and "flatter", even though I prefer the format....

For me JL2 (13 JUL PSM) is rock n roll, loud, pronounced and sometimes in your face flavors. JL1 (13 ABR PSM) is classical music, flavors are there but gentle and more refined.

It will be interesting to see how they change with age.

Hello Gentlemen,

The JL2 is my go to cigar! I have had several boxes and have several more in the coolidor. They are for me, one of the most consistent Cuban cigars. I find they almost always satisfy me. They are generally not spectacular, but they very rarely disappoint either. For me, they have stronger flavors, of spice and wood. The JL1 is much more subdued to my palate. I get a little graham cracker and wood.

Thank you,

Curtiss

JL's have been salty for me. You know when you have ketchup that splits, and there's a yellowish liquid that pours out sometimes? That's what JL's taste like. A tomato-y, salty, umami, and savory cigar.

That's how I found the 2014 bolivar super corona

I have a box of 25 #2 on their way to me. I'm hoping and praying they have the same quality of some of the great reviews they have been receiving and manage to tickle my fancy. Of the robusto my favourite is the Cohiba Rob and as a go to the D4.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a robusto that presents the Cohiba aromatic quality.

Thanks

Randy
