Fosgate Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Ok, so I smoked my way through a sampler Prez put together for me a couple years ago and of that I fell in love with the SC LaPunta, RJ Wide Churchill, and HDM Epicure No.2 and in that order. I also smoked my way through a couple boxes of Pardigas D'4s and aging a box of Behike 56's and have tried a few others. I used to like the maduro's NC's Like Cohiba Black and still like Man o'war double coronas but I would buy a box of any of my top 3 so far. I would up buying a box of SC Lapunta as well as their La Fuerza, HDM Especial, and a box of Wide Churchills, I think what i have found I like is silky sweet, smooth cream, with a certain boldness of flavors. Here is how I personally ranked based on what I had Brand Vitola Price Ea Try again? Personal Ranking Montecristo EDMUNDO 25′S (SINGLE) $14.06 possibly Montecristo NO.2 25′S (SINGLE) $15.60 no BOLIVAR ROYAL CORONAS A/T 10′S Tubes (SINGLE) $16.46 no PARTAGAS SERIE D NO.4 SBN-B 25′S (SINGLE) $15.11 yes HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE NO.2 SLB 25′S (SINGLE) $12.21 yes 2 HOYO DE MONTERREY EPICURE NO.1 SLB 25′S (SINGLE) $2.97 yes 7 VEGAS ROBAINA UNICOS 25′S (SINGLE) $15.24 no SAN CRISTOBAL DE LA HABANA LA PUNTA 25′S (SINGLE) $13.30 yes! 1 TRINIDAD ROBUSTO T 12′S (SINGLE) $23.75 yes 4 ROMEO Y JULIETA WIDE CHURCHILLS 25′S (SINGLE) $17.13 yes 3 COHIBA SIGLO VI SLB 25′S (SINGLE) $28.81 yes 5 COHIBA ROBUSTOS C/P 3′SX5 15′S (SINGLE) $21.69 yes 6 DIPLOMATICOS DIPLOMATICOS NO.2 25′S (SINGLE) $13.62 no PUNCH Punch Serie D’Oro Number 2 Limited Edicion 2013 (SINGLE) $ 21.00 maybe JUAN LOPEZ SELECCION NO.2 25′S (SINGLE) $10.82 no Cohiba Bohike 56 (10 count box) $38.69 no While I like the Cohiba Siglo VI, Robusto and a couple others, maybe I just simply don't have the age on them or they just don't "Pop" enough for me to spring to their price for a more regular smoke. I tried the Trinidad Robusto and two of three I had each had their own construction issues. Same thing with my D4's as about 1/4 of two boxes wrappers split. (this was after I ranked them with what I like) This is where I really liked the Wide Churchill with it's velvety smooth touch on the lips. Those three had me excited the whole way through with good flavors, smoke, aroma, construction etc. The Monte #2's were the same way for me. Almost too bland to me or maybe I just got three bad ones but nothing really stood out to me with them. What else would someone suggest I try?
Fosgate Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 Was at 67-69 but lowering to 64. In the process of building a wineador to better regulate the temp and RH during the cold winters. I also just ordered a couple boxes of SC El Principe on faith, HDM Ep2 and another box of SC La Punta. Gotta get stuff here before winter hits to avoid rapid temp sways during shipping. Any other suggestions?
CaptainQuintero Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Sweetest cigars for me are: Quintero Panetelas Siglo 2 LGC #4 Juan Lopez PC PLPC
stogieluver Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 The wrappers splitting is a concern. Are you smoking outside in high humidity? I smoke inside exclusively and have never had a split wrapper. Smoking outside in high humidity also will greatly affect the taste and burn. Not telling you anything you already know, Fos, but just something to always consider.
Fosgate Posted September 19, 2015 Author Posted September 19, 2015 No, I had them shipped when it was -40 up here. I instantly had a few I noticed to have wrapper issues and within a month at 67rh there were several more that split. It just wreaked havoc on the D4's the most but I think that cold weather is what caused wrapper issues in several others including trinidads. Reason I believe this I have removed a bag of NC's from a freezer straight to room temp and had similar issues where many split. It's why I try to limit my online buying to fall and spring now. Keyword "TRY"
