Ryan Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I know the box stamp on the bottom of pre-revolution boxes looks like this. "Made in Havana-Cuba" I know Trevors site confirms this and I've seen a few in the flesh. However, I recently come across one like this. Has anyone else seen this stamp on a pre-revolution box of cigars? Simply "Made in Havana" Thanks for any help.
Ryan Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 No one knows. Oh well, if only there was a Tinder app for "dating" cigar boxes.. 3
Thrassos Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Sorry Ryan, I have seen quite a few old boxes but have never seen a box with that stamp. I'm however intrigued by it and will try and figure out what it is. Can you tell me a bit more about the box? What brand et cetera?
Ryan Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 It's an old Romeo and Julieta box of machine-mades. The thing is, there is absolutely no reason anyone would fake them. Something I did come across was this. Have a look at the third picture from the bottom on this page. http://cigarhistory.info/Dating/Dating_Cuban_Boxes.html I've seen the stamp before somewhere on a box a long time ago.

For some reason machine made, pre embargo and that stamp does ring a bell with me but I'm trying to find the evidence.
Ryan Posted July 29, 2015 Author Posted July 29, 2015 They might not be machine made. They are specifically Romeo y Julieta Bouquets.
ayepatz Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Saw this image on a photography site. Not much help as there was no further info, I'm afraid, but at least it shows another example.

The only thing about that is the box has no provenance. Nothing to say it's from a real box. Thanks though. 1

Have a look at the link https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/193617252/antique-1930s-wooden-romeo-y-julieta Hi thanks but the item seems to have sold and I can't find a picture of the bottom of the box, unless the picture won't show on my iPhone. Was there one that showed a picture of the stamp on the bottom saying "Made in Havana"? Thanks again.
