Ok no crap, I'm with my buddy Grant last night, a mountain of a man from Sydney, and he told me his buddy passed away a few years ago and last week his wife gave my buddy his cigars, ie no humidity control for a least 2 years. Grant said hey were hard as rocks so he put then in an empty humidor with baby carrots. 3 weeks later the cigars were fine and the carrots were completely dehydrated. I took a few puffs from the cigar, it was not rock hard and it smoked fine.

Now mind you I'm not going to tell a 6'4, 300 pound Aussie he's frigin nuts, but is this something that anyone has ever heard of or is my friend crackers....

Age-old trick. When I was a kid all the pipe smokers put slices of carrot in their tobacco jar, and often a small one in their tobacco pouch.

I have rescued a lot of dried out cigars.

I have found it takes a long time to do it right, but it can be done.

Generally toro or churchill size cigars need months to totally rehydrate,as it is a slow process.

Interesting trick with the carrot.

In my experience, you can rehydrate dried out cigars, but if they really got toasted, precious oils tend to crystallize out and the smoke isn't ever going to be the same. They may smoke 'fine' but they will never be as good as they could have been.

One man's opinion.....

I work with a man who grew up in Jamacia. One day another person offered him some monte lanceros that he had neglected for years. They were like penciles. This Jamacian said he could bring back to some degree with carrots.

I've heard people used to put half a potato in their humidors back in the days before humidification devices

I'd be too paranoid about mold or rot, but I guess you can't argue with results.
