Hello Fellow BOTL/SOTL!! I am thinking about making my first box purchase and am not too sure what I should get. The vitolas I really enjoy are PCs Robustos and Belicosos. I don't think I want my first box purchase to be of Belicosos though. So I am looking for a PC or a Robusto. I really enjoy the Bolivar PCs, as well as RASS, Although I did have a Juan Lopez PC the other day that was surprisingly good! I also heard a rumor that they are going to be discontinuing the JL PC next year or in the near future?? . As a guy who doesn't normally buy boxes I want to make sure I get this right. I usually get a few singles of what I like or Fivers. Any input is much appreciated. I also like the Maduro 5 but have only had the Secretos. I want to try the Magicos but maybe its not a good candidate as my first box purchase. Also what is smoking good from 2014 in these vitolas? Anyways, I am a big fan of PCs and Robustos any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks!

Marcus

First piece of advise..buy what you like. The way I look at it if I like a cigar how can I go wrong by buying more? A lot of people may say what you like now might not be what you like in a few years so explore your tastes....how am I going to know what I like in a few years?

All things aside, personally, I wouldn't spend the kind of coin to get a box of any Cohiba as my first box. I am working my way up to that kind of purchase. Though if you have the money to blow, go for it!

If you like PC then I would suggest a box of Partagas Shorts. Best bang for your buck and a cigar that never fails to deliver.

Maybe a box of Bolivar RC that are smoking awesome as of late.

It was suggested to me to order singles for a while. Try every single I can so I can figure out what I like...mind you I don't know how long you have been into CCs or cigars in general....Once I tried a cigar I liked I would look out for it on the 24:24.

Slowly starting to build my stock by trying cigars and waiting for them to pop up in the 24:24.

The JLPC are very good. If they are discontinuing them thats a shame becasue they are good. Also try the Boli CJ and Partagas Shorts. Both also very good and full of flavor. Partagas Super Partagas are great as well and fit that size range.

Thanks brother, I like the idea of getting some boli RCs because I like the Belicoso finos and Pcs so much and I have heard from other people as well they are smoking great recently. How do the Partagas shorts compare to the Millie Fluers?

Best bet is to place an order for a sampler/starter pack to begin with and find out what you like. Do like I did and take the plunge, there will be more boxes after your first purchase so don't get too caught up on it. Watch the sales as Rob usually indicates what is smoking good now and go from there .

No Idea, Ive never had a Mille Fluers, but I bet the shorts are better. You said you like BBF, if so the BCJ reminds me of a mini BBF sometimes. Very good!

I have been getting singles and fivers for the past 6 months or so I'm itching to get a box. I guess I am sick of constantly saying "I enjoy these" only to run out and have to get more. Although, inevitably that's usually the case.

Where do I see the sales? you can PM or email me if we cannot post on open forum about it.

There is a daily 24:24 thread on this forum where Rob will post some boxes for sales.

The Mille Fleurs are decent but the Shorts are better IMHO.

I wouldn't say "better". They're different, the Short being stronger and sharper. I prefer a young MF to a young Short; an aged Short from a cab 50 is a different story...

I love this post! Your excitement and enthusiasm for your first box reminds me of mine!

Addressing your post, you threw a lot out there. My best advice is to buy what you know you like. I would start with the Boli RC's, since their quality seems to have been very good recently. Have Rob pick you a box and go from there. It's a slippery slope my friend, so enjoy the ride!

How about a box of Monte Petit Edmundos. Robs 24/24 has had some nice boxes. I should know I've bought enough.

My other suggestion are the Bolivar RC. I see you've tried them and they are smoking really good right now.

Add another vote for the BRC (ULA 14 codes have been excellent).

Also, BPC have not let me down

SLR Regios have also been smoking wonderfully. I can't seem to stop reaching for these lately.

These are all great young and they won't break the bank

My first box was a lovely dress box of Boli RC's cant go wrong and the 2014's are smoking great....

Another good option would be a box of RASS or SLR Regios.... both have been hitting the spot recently...
