I see lots of references to letting CCs sit from anywhere from 6 months to several years. My question is what is that time frame based on? Is it the date code on the box or is it based on when the box hits your humidor. Most of my experience is with NCCs and with a few exceptions they are generally ready for the flame as soon as they acclimate to the humidor. With CCs it looks like the general consensus is the inverse is true. So, how does everyone "count age"?

Thank you all!

Box date. For CC's from what i've read in general assuming its acclimated in your humi, if its less than 3-4 years (can't remember the exact time) its resting, above that up to 10 years its got age, then 10 years and beyond its Vintage? Im likely wrong (correct me if so), but that's what im going by.

Depends as quality of tobacco fluctuated and varietals grown in Cuba change from time to time so trying to set in stone anything is somewhat naive. Based on my readings (not personal experience) I'd say 5 years is resting, then it's aged and results may vary. Vintage, to my ears, is anything that is more than 15 years old. Again, this statement is bound to be suggestive...

For me it's box date (which could be months after the cigars are actually rolled). Acclimation time is after I take possession.

For me its box age/code. Like Colt said the cigars may have been rolled earlier but its not usually taken into consideration. Everyone has different preferences on how long to let them sit but generally for Cc I like to try them at 2years and go from there. Further bagged, wrapped or varnished cabs/boxes seem to progress much slower.
