mi000ke Posted April 18, 2015 Author Posted April 18, 2015 What a difference a day makes. Smoked a Parti 898 this morning that I dryboxed for 1 day. Fantastic smoke! full-flavored, mellow, creamy, twangy. I've smoked countless NCs over the many years but nothing tasted like this, so now I get it. Followed it with a RASS I boxed for 2 days, and while I really didn't 't like the flavor profile (strong notes of spice and wood, spice calming down a bit after the first third) it was still way better after dryboxing. I'll keep testing them every few months. And I made sure to smoke them slowly this time. So the problem seems to have been the moisture. I have a Boli FC that I'm going to smoke tomorrow which will have been dryboxed for three days, so we'll see how that one fares. Thanks to all for your advice. My faith has been restored.
CaptainQuintero Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 Low humidity and very slow smoking (shallow, slow and infrequent draws) seems to be the key to getting the best out of Cubans for me. Going from 70% then 65% then 62% was a revelation for me. No more relights, crisp flavours and no more harsh/hot soil aspects. Making a robusto last an hour and a half, kind of speed, made a huge difference too

soutso Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Dry boxing for a day can help, but I doubt any humidity problems would be solved so quickly. Even within the same box you'll find cigars right beside each other that have a different water content within. Just feel them, squeeze gently down the entire length of the cigar. Pick the firmest one and you'll tend to have the best smoking experience. If you're using Bovedas, then buy the 62RH Good luck on your journey 1
