headstand Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 My brother-in-law traveled some distance over the weekend to give me a hand with a redo of my irrigation system. I want to repay him for the time, cost, and effort, with a box of cigars. He is a man of simple pleasures; a big fan of the R&J #2 tubos. Can any BOTL give me a heads up on how current stock is smoking? I don't smoke them so am at a loss. Of course, I can get him a box of my favourites, but taste being what it is, I want to honour his preference. I would appreciate your input. Thanks in advance, Alan
sengjc Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Haven't had one a while but the Romeo y Julieta Romeo series is historically consistent.
CUBANO Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Just get them for him. He will appreciate it no matter what
CanuckSARTech Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Smoked one recently, and also another super fresh one in Cuba last week actually. Not bad at all, compared to what they used to be, prior to 2008 or so. With about only about two years on them especially, they're an amazing little smoke for the cost.
MrGTO Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 That was one of my first Cubans when I was down in the islands for a wedding. If they are still anything like the ones I had it would be a no brainer. I'm actually gonna try and get some for myself for nastagic reasons.
headstand Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Thanks for the advice gentlemen. Will order a box, maybe two
Smallclub Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 The Romeo No.2 A/T is often dispised or snubbed by certain people (including veteran who are unaware that it's no longer a cheap machine made cigar) but in my experience it's a solid, well-priced proposition. 2
Pedro2486 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 They were my gateway cigar and will always hold a soft spot in my heart even though the RyJ profile doesn't really suit my taste anymore. I haven't had one in a year or so but would still go for them
JohnS Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I've lucked out on RyJ tubos, I haven't had one I was thrilled about. Ironically, I've liked quite a few Punch tubos. Having said this, I'm looking forward to smoking my RyJ Churchills soon and I don't doubt the consensus here that RyJ tubos are consistent. Surely my luck has to change the next time I have one!
cigarbreak Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Smoked right through my 2013 box. IMO i like em, they are not complex but do have unmistakable underlying cherry note i found. They're much better though rested out of the tube in my limited experience.
