What's the xikar warranty like down under?

I've been hearing that they won't honour the lifetime warranty outside the US?
I'm hoping that's not true.....

For me in Canada, the shipping + hassle + wait time is not worth it for the Xikar or Colibri lighters that one buys online.

Unless you buy it in a shoppe that guarantees you can just replace it there, then I don't even want to attempt the warranty horror stories I've heard from other BotL.

I used it on a lighter and I'm in the UK, worked well, no issues at all!

What did you have to do? Where did you take it etc..

I'm from Sydney. I bought a Xikar Lighter on ebay, a new one. From the get go it didn't work well.

I sent them an email and they sent me a warranty form. I sent the lighter back to them (unfortunately set me back $35.00 delivery) and withing about 3-4 weeks I recieved a new one, no questions asked.

I have to say that they were great about it.

Cheers

There's a form you complete which you can download on their website. Just empty the lighter, bang it in a box/jiffy-bag along with the form and send it on it's way, job done!

As mentioned

Depending on the cost of the item in question, it may be cheaper just to get a new one

I dropped one of my cutters and it exploded a while back. Contact Xikar about warranty and while they were happy to warranty it shipping was going to be $30

A new cutter was $35 landed so I just tossed it and bought another

There is a form on their website you fill out and you pay to send it to them

They'll repair the fault and return it to you (at their cost)

Its a good system, assuming your lighter/cutter is one of their expensive ones

Personally, my research has led me away from Xikar lighters and towards cutters. I know they mainly replace them now, once a upon a time you'd get your Xikar product repaired more often. How times have changed.

I bought my Xikar products from a retailer in Perth. I took it back to them. Unfortunately they didn't replace on the spot, but said they'd send it away. It took about 8 weeks but I got it back/replaced eventually at no cost to me.

At the time I was pissed off as to "why should I buy local retail when they don't honour the replacement in store" but this thread has taught me that I saved 30 bucks of shipping. Cool. Will buy my xikar stuff local all the time!

They are always good on replacing. Take it to a local shop that sells them, I'm sure they will replace it or send it out for repairs

We sell Xikar and Colibri.. Located just outside of Toronto...

The deal with Xikar; if you have a warrenty issue, you take it to any Xikar dealer, and they are "supposed to" Replace it on the spot, then they send the defective unit back and receive a replacement... All of this, shipping it back and paying for shipping / waiting is the shop being lazy and uncooperative and not honoring the guarantee. Its because they don't want to give up their inventory to replace it... It's BS...

Colibri on the other hand, you have to send it back to them for inspection. There is no getting around that one.

I have gone through 4 in the last 3 years. I just walk into my local shop and they cheerfully replace it with a new one. They have upgraded the model too.

Xikar knows they break often, its all built into the price.

A quote from the movie Tommyboy. " If you want me to take a crap in a box and Mark it guaranteed I will." My take on Xikar is there are thousands of threads asking about how to get them fixed and maybe one guy who says he never had problems. I've never seen a thread about the $3 Ronsons I use because they last a lifetime.

This one going on 4 years old and gets used everyday. Never any issues:

Second best quote to "You can get a good look at a T-bone steak by sticking your head up a bulls ass, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?"
