oliverdst Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I couldn't understand what was so funny. For those who like to read or have about the books about cigars is always good to have news. For sure it won't be like MRN's but it's something new. 1

For sure it won't be like MRN's but it's something new. It's like a tour guide from any city in the world writing a book about that city, would not it expect it to a ground shattering book or even that good as there a tour guide.
LordAnubis Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 For those of you who are just dismissing this book and laughing at it. How about you take the time to analyze and offer genuine first hand comparisons between the two texts. Someone has spent time creating a publication, respect their work. We are not here to claim superiority. We are here to learn and teach each other. Let's do that. From the overview the book looks like it has good beginner information into the world of cigars. I'm sure there's something in that we can all learn from. If anyone picks it up and finds some interesting facts please post them up Thanks for bringing it to our attention acidmase. I will read the book though as I bet it makes me laugh some more.
LordAnubis Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 If you have opinions about the author, keep them to yourself please. 2
Smallclub Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 If you have opinions about the author, keep them to yourself please. ...mmm... as far as I know the author is not seen as a connoisseur on UK cigar forums, as a matter of fact he's more often mocked than he is quoted... Now, how can people seriously compare a guide of cigar shops in London , to a 500 pages Encyclopaedia that has a lasting impact on the cigar world since its release?
LordAnubis Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 What his standing is on other forums has no bearing on how the members here on FoH are to publicly talk about him. This forum will not bring a published author into disripute because of other peopls opinions of the bloke. FoH gives everyone a fair go, we respect everyone. If you want to disrespect a published author then feel free to do it somewhere else. Bring this thread back on topic. If anyone can answer the OPs question regarding the book he is looking for then please let him know.

Sorry, a bit off topic but what's this cigar encyclopedia you speak of?
Smallclub Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 still no one answered my ? To my knowledge there is no book. Only the touristic thing…
oliverdst Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I seen somewhere on the web someone is selling a book out now or coming soon that is like min ron's book.. Can someone PM me where to find it please? Maybe you are talking about his on-line magazine: http://www.ukcigarscene.com/ I wrote him an e-mail to say good luck after reading the mag and he replied. It seems a good guy. No matter how much he knows about cigars I am sure with this magazine he already has done MUCH MUCH more than 99.9% of us here to the cigar community.
Popular Post Ryan Posted January 31, 2015 Popular Post Posted January 31, 2015 Nic Wing is a good guy. The cigar magazine he is putting out is very well put together. If I didn't like him I'd say the same. It's easy to take shots at people who stick their head over the wall. Lots of us, me included, I'm sure have had thoughts at some stage about doing something cigar-related in a professional capacity. Most of us haven't done it. Nic Wing has. He has taken that risk and best of luck to him. Cigar smoking, the ability to buy them and enjoy them, is under threat from all angles. The work Nic Wing, and people like him are doing, help to promote this hobby we all enjoy. Like him or not and like his magazine or not, we all benefit from work he and others are doing. If he makes some money off it, and I hope he does, so what? It's not a crime to earn a living and he's not ripping anybody off. 5
Ryan Posted January 31, 2015 Posted January 31, 2015 I seen somewhere on the web someone is selling a book out now or coming soon that is like min ron's book.. Can someone PM me where to find it please? As for the original question. I haven't heard of anything coming out in the near future that could compare to Min Ron Nee's encylopaedia in content. Other than a new, expanded encyclopaedia by the same author, rumoured to be coming out in the next year or two.
El Presidente Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 This hobby/industry has been under attack for a long time now. I have never understood the need to throw stones at anyone who puts in the effort and time to shed some light on the hobby/industry (whatever aspect). Love it, hate it, ambivalent to it....doesn't really matter. Appreciation for the effort should be a given. 2
