I used to enjoy Port with an Opus X, almost any of them actually, but I seem to have lost that with Cubans. might be ready to try some more pairings but it seemed to overpower

I used to enjoy ports quite a bit. Mostly after dinner but sometimes with a cigar. I still have some very nice and rare ports in storage since I left the states.

My dining-out habits changed considerably once I left the states (virtually no client entertaining and the like) so its just not something I turn to anymore.

Sounds like I need to pick up a Taylor Fladgate tawny and try out with some smokes soon

My palate prefers a nice aged tawny over a ruby, but either one well made and well aged I find pair nice with many a cigar.

I like Tawny Port with cigars on occasion.

so many possible combo's!

not sure where the original poster hails from but oz tawnies are usually quite a bit sweeter than the portuguese examples. and i think that often works really well with certain cigars. we rarely see rubies down here but i'd agree - tawnies, from wherever, would be preferable.

all that said, i love good vintage port. again, aussie examples can be a bit sweeter - the lesser ones a bit like big sweet reds which is not so attractive, but from stanton & killeen, campbells, morris, reynella, hardys, some great stuff.

the ultimates are the top stuff from portugal - taylors, warres, dows, grahams, fonseca, neipoort and plenty more.

Enjoyed a Partagas SdC #3 with Graham's 10yo Tawny last night. Quite the nice combo.

Since i starded discorvering scotch and rum, i don't drink port anymore, but when i did, Taylor Fladgate 10 yo felt very nice with most cigars.
