tjohn7 Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Opening: No strong smells coming off this stick. Solid construction, no soft or hard spots. Just nice and smooth from the top down to the foot. First third: Pleased with this one to start. Packs a punch from the get-go. Body is a touch over medium. The finish is short, but has some coffee, shortbread and hay. Pleased with how it’s starting out. Burn is even, with a solid draw. Second third: Continuation of the good start, dried fruit starts to pop up. Is that raisins or dried cherries? Either way, it tastes great. Those flavors disappear, but the core flavors remain. Burn is still consistent, draw is good and the finish seems to lengthen just a little bit. The body is still over medium. Final third: No real complexity appears here. The fleeting notes that showed up in the second third are nowhere to be found. The finish becomes a bit harsher, but still pleasant. A bit of canoeing occurs with the burn, but quickly corrects itself. The body shifts back towards medium. Overall this was a very nice cigar. More complexity than the Monte 2 I smoked, but the stick limped to the finish line. I ordered a box of these after smoking this stick, so I’m hoping for a better finish but similar flavors in the future. First third: 92 Second third: 92 Final third: 90 Overall: 91. Just a very nice pleasant experience. So glad I have more of these resting in the humidor.
garbandz Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I find these to be pretty much as John said, rich, tasty, fuller than average, and not quite attenuated......... And as you are ,I am glad I have some of these laying down.............
Optic101 Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Hope the box you have will be better as this one is a great cigar.
Quint Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Nice review thanks for sharing. Can't imagine 4 years isn't enough time for a cigar to come around though. But a 91 rating is still a good rating.
celtmick1984 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Thanks for the review; have a 10er from this code coming and will spark one when it hits five years and offer my thoughts.
TheMonk Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Nice review! I personally prefer the Connie A, but the 1 is a very nice smoke nonetheless.
ElPuro Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I've got a USE 2012 box that's a dream. Love these smokes. Makes me want to buy more and/or get a box of the Connie A's....which are on clearance via 24:72....SOOOooooo tempted.
squizz Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Thanks for the review, I've got a box from the same year. Cant wait to get those burning.
Habana Mike Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Thanks for the review. Just called home a POS AGO11 box from the locker, interesting to see how these will fare.

Just realized this thread is 2 years old tho. Lol.
Ralphanator Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Nice review! I personally prefer the Connie A, but the 1 is a very nice smoke nonetheless. I have a few Conni #1 in transit how do they differ from Conni A.. and are they worth the extra cost? I've only smoked a few #1's in the past and never an A. TIA

I've only smoked a few #1's in the past and never an A. TIA That's always a very personal thing, IMO. That being said, I much prefer the Connie A, although as you mentioned they are also considerably more expensive - but that's me, because I really only enjoy Connie 1s with a few years on them, while the Connie A is really good ROTT. All in all, and despite the higher price, I'd say the Connie As are definitely worth it.

stigmata Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 One of my favorites And one of the few I stocked up on

I've only smoked a few #1's in the past and never an A. TIA I much prefer the Connie #1. The Connie A, while a very good and complex cigar, seems to be trying to be too many things. I like the balance of the C1 and it's somewhat rustic nature.
FalseCast Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Thanks for the review. I need to find a box of these.

I recived two boxes from 2011 and they are in a Sliding lid Cabinet! As far as I know Upmann Conn #1 only came in Sliding lid cabinets. Just wondering.
