kevn Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Has anyone tried this recently that can provide feedback? How does it compares to the 10 yr olds of Laphroaig, Ardbeg, etc. Thanks!!!
sengjc Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Better off with Laphroaig and Ardbeg - I think.
garbandz Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Port Charlotte is made by Bruichladdich and is more typical of a northern Islay Single Malt. The P.C's I have tried were a huge disappointment,I have had 4 or 5 different expressions..... The southern Islay singles are waaaaay more intense. Hard for me to support Bruichladdich, they seem to produce more different named bottles than the next 10 distilleries put together. Makes it hard to determine what the "Distillery Character" is all about.
Lotusguy Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 I like it, but it is a lot less peaty and intense than Laphroaig or Ardbeg or Lagavullin.

Nah they were trying turnover a quick buck - running a distillery is expensive business. Now that it is Remy owned - they trying to realise a faster ROI (Return of Investment).
kevn Posted November 18, 2014 Author Posted November 18, 2014 Thanks for the comments. As I expected. I had high hopes for the 46% and non-chill filtered.
TM-US Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Jim McEwan sounds like a mad scientist, coming up with different stuff all the time. I think Bruichladdich's products are interesting because of that, but in doing so, you get a lot of duds among the brilliant ones. I'm not a heavy peat or smoke lover, so the PC is not my thing, but I wouldn't dismiss the entire catalogue of the distillery.
Habana Mike Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I've been following Bruichladdich since they've reopened and began distilling again. Was a big fan of the stuff before the distillery was shuttered in 1994 and bottles became scarce. Jumped on their first new releases, following from the PC5 through PC10, missed the PC8 - interesting to have the opportunity to see how the whisky matured year over year. Have sampled the Octomore, the Peat Project, Black Art, Rocks, Laddie 10, Classic Laddie, Islay Barley, and most recently the Unpeated Classic Laddie and Heavily Peated PC. Some have been a great dram, others underwhelming. Still I generally reach for the Lagavulin, Caol Ila or Ardbeg when selecting a bottle of Islay.
