Popular Post El Presidente Posted October 7, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 7, 2014 I touched base with a member in the last week who was having a pretty tough time. Family, employment, finances, booze. mentally he was in a bad way. I had no idea. If stats are right, dependency (and/or/+) depression happens to half of us (to varying degrees) over the course of a lifetime. For those who have been here for some time and have interacted with a member who has dropped off the radar for an extended period of time, drop them a PM or e-mail with a "How are you, what's happening". It takes little time on your part. It can make a huge difference to others who may just be having a hell of a time. Of course they may just have better things to do! Still, there is nothing to lose and potentially you are opening a line of communication that can make a real difference. 28

AndrewNR Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Members here have helped me immensely through some of my hard times and I'm forever grateful. Only last week myself I made sure to send a few messages out to people I'd been in contact with and do hope to stay in better touch soon with the Aussie Brethren here I met at Havanthon. It's a wonderful thing to think about somebody you care about or have had experiences with but its a beautiful and noble thing again to tell them and ask how they are when you do.
charlesod Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I'm the Director of a alcoholism and drug addiction treatment center here in North Carolina. I've worked in this field for over 30 years. Believe me, it can happen to anyone. All of us know people, sometimes close friends, who have had problems. The good news is, people do recover. It all begins with someone reaching out for help. Our job, as friends and family, is to be there when they do. Then, know where to turn for assistance, professional or otherwise.
dicko Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Just another thing that proves FOH is the best community around I love this place. Rob called me earlier in the year to say g'day when I was started up a new venture and it meant the world to me. Regarding depression, I'm glad society is starting to take it as seriously as other forms of illness. 1
Drguano Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Excellent reminder. I've been meaning to check in on a mate for a while. Thanks!
Lasabar Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 What a great thread. Rob you truly are a great business man but also an inspiring man in general. Thank you for all you do, for us and for the cigar community. Cheers
PigFish Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 You gotta be a nut to be a member here! It is a requisite! Great thread Rob… I love you brother! -Ray
Philski Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Prez, don't mean to blow smoke up your arse, but I think you're the embodiment of the FOH culture and that of cigar smokers in general. This a great reminder of how to be a better human being.
Hash Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 A nice reminder that we are all humans and vulnerable.
IPORTER Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Ditto to all the above comments. Rob you are gentleman and good human being!

Perla Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Speaking of checking on BOTL/FOH, I haven't seen any posts from Nino lately. Wonder if everything is okay with him. Nino, are you out there? Nino is okay, hopefully on a vacation in Portugal. And from time to time he is writing on his blog. Just check in.

JohnS Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I wanted to second Rob's thoughts as an encouragement to our dear friends here at FoH. Recently, I've used my past work experiences to help some friends who have been struggling with work issues. It is extremely common, especially for the many of us who are 40 years of age and over. Men will hide their deep angst over this, often due to feelings of inadequacy. I am open about my career struggles (I'm taking about dealing with bullies in the workplace) because you get to a point in your life where honestly you're more helpful to others by being caring and honest. If anyone around you is less social, perhaps a little withdrawn, don't hesitate to give a ring and say, "Hey, how are you, I'm thinking of You!". Each of us can make a positive difference in the lives of many.
purpleloki Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Life hits us all in different ways. Sometimes the smallest gesture can mean the most. Good topic/reminder.
Cohiba Stevie Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Surreal this topic has come up again... I myself am going through a rough one at the minute. Here's hoping
