Popular Post Rye Posted October 6, 2014 Popular Post Posted October 6, 2014 Wow, what a weekend! I was thrilled to be a part of helping cross off a bucket list event on a few people's lists. Perfect weather was a real blessing as we embarked on an experience of a lifetime on Saturday morning. Ultra strong winds had me worried that we wouldn't be able to fly, or it would hamper our enjoyment once on top of Cox hill. Luckily for us, our pilot was very in tune to what I was trying to achieve when I first approached him with the idea last fall. We were all very excited and we're happy getting to know each other while we waited for the pre-flight stuff to be done. The 6 of us, plus Ralph the pilot, and a guide divided into two groups as Ralph figured he'd make the ride more spacious for us and take 2 trips up. I settled in for what was my first heli flight and could hardly contain my excitement. Our 2 friends that made the long haul drive from Northern Alberta (Ft. Mac) were just as pumped. We were the first group up, and that gave me a chance to set up a bit for the next group, as well as catch some aerial shots of our ride. The second group was up in less than 15 minutes and I was ready to get this day going. Once arrived, I made sure everyone had their preferred bevvie and we all decided to enjoy an old Diplomaticos no.4 as our cigar. Light lunch was served and we all enjoyed the great company in a surreal setting. After a quick snack, and a few drams, we followed our guide on a short walk through the woods to the other side of the ridge. The only way to avoid spectacular views was to close your eyes. It was a sight to behold in all directions. Great times with old friends and new, and I will be forever grateful for this experience. 20
