El Presidente Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 The B&M (Bricks and Mortar Store) you nominate may not have the best selection but certainly the best staff. They make you feel not only welcome but special. CC's or non CC's. Le'ts give those B&M's a pat on the back. Mention the people involved, no problems. We wish them every success and if they are doing benchmark customer service, they deserve it!
El Presidente Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 I have visited plenty over the years. Connoisseur Divan Singapore Wishnu and the team do a remarkable Job in a country where it it is difficult to ply a trade. I love the weekly bands/singers, the great booze selection and the excellent range. Prices are relatively high but that is not their fault. For anbience and a great couple of hours away, hard to beat. JJ Fox Dublin. I just love Rob and Stuart Fox. Two friends you don't need if you are looking for a liver transplant. David is a gent, range is excellent and you may even get a sneak peek at some 50 -100 year old cigars. There are no better people in the world of Cigars today. Personality, laughter, history and knowledge personified. 2
ogus Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 In Charlotte there is a cigar shop per very square mile it seems. None are really homey to me. MCCranie's has stogies and better pipe selection. Tinderbox top grosser is in Charlotte. JR used to be nice. I guess Cigar Jack's and Outland are okay too. Peretti's in Boston. Holt's in Philly.
ogus Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 LowCounty Pipe and Cigar is the biggest pipe dealer (near Myrtle Beach) Empire in Raleigh 1
LordAnubis Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 LCDH London (ok Teddington) Ajay is a good bloke to have a smoek with. Range wise he doesn't have anything too big in terms of current stock, but he's always got some 15 year old box of something open to smoke. Relax in the lounge and enjoy a good smoke. Dunhill Tobacco London (1A St James St... down the road from Davidoff and JJ Fox) Only two blokes in the shop, Tom and i forget the name of the older guy. When i've gone in both have been great company, sat down with Tom for a smoke and talk and it was great. Nice shop and nice people. They have this tobacco room kind of hidden that hasdifferent types of tobaccos you can pick up smell individually, nice interactive display.
El Presidente Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 I want best of the best from what you have experienced. No listings of your area, just best of the best. Cheers!
Rye Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Not the fanciest of shops, but Alex and the crew at the Golden Leaf cigars in Calgary gets my vote. Great to visit with, good selection, and all around good guys. I am lucky to consider him a friend!
DrunkenMonkey Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I'm visiting St. Louis right now, and just had a cigar and a drink or five at the Charles P. Stanley cigar bar, thanks to the recommendation of several FOH members. Beautiful place, nice guys. This was a very important cigar company in the past. At one point they were one of the biggest wholesalers of cigars in the world, with factories in Havana and Tampa. Their customers included such well-known cigar smokers as President U.S. Grant and Sir Arthur Sullivan. I left the bartender a RASS with my tip, which he much appreciated. They have been grandfathered in to Missouri's smoking ban, but of course that's only good until the next batch of idiots in the state legislature decides otherwise. I wish them well. 1
SMQQKIN Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Casa De Montecristo in LaGrange Illinois is the best B&M in the states I've been to hands down. Selection of NCs, facility, staff knowledge & hospitality is excellent IMO. A true NC cigar aficionados heaven.
Guest rob Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Czar in Brisbane for best of the best. And I'm not to sure on the establishments name, but Filip's place in Brisbane has a quaint, homely atmosphere I enjoy.
rtrimbath Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Bloom Cigar Company in Pittsburgh, Pa. Excellent selection of NC's. Lots of super premiums. Opus X Lost City, Anejo, Liga Privada Unicos, Padron, God of Fire, etc.
ShortFatHokie Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 LowCounty Pipe and Cigar is the biggest pipe dealer (near Myrtle Beach) I visit Low Country every time I go to the Grand Strand. By far, my favorite! Service and selection is second to none.
ogus Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Been to stores everywhere but Madison Wine and Cigar (WI) was best- Matt let me try wines all day for a week and had great cigars. He remembered me a year later. Jr Unlimited used to let you try cigars, bring your dog, but now it's a gift shop.
cigarbreak Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Casablanca in Toronto. Best service i've experienced. Those guys will gladly spend a hlf hr or more in the walk in humidor with you answering all your questions. Ive literally asked questions them bout over half their stock lol probably even repeated some a few times on different occasions and am never met with snobbery just because that day i'm only looking to buy a couple C&C's. Passionate dudes who guide the noob through the journey, and not to the most expensive sticks they have in store. They've even let me get a good whif of newly opened BHK's and other special cigars. Been to others in TO but none look more for the conversation and comraderie more than them.
cigarbreak Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 In the US its gotta be Cigars International Superstore in Bethlehem, PA. Biggest store i've experienced (the store itself was the humidor) and like most good places will work out a deal with you if grabbing multiple items. Unreal selection of NC's. And you can smoke whist shopping lol (We Canadians don't have that luxury lol)
CigarAsh Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Easy for me. Less than a mile from my house is the Outlaw Cigar South. 8,000 square foot place with 2/3 (or more) dedicated to smoking lounges. Kendall Culbertson is the brains and marketing behind this great place. Regularly does large events with free food, beer, vendors displaying new wares. When you walk in, you're standing in front of one of the biggest humidors I've ever seen in a shop. Tremendous selection including his own line of cigars. He regularly works with factories in Central America and produces his own tasty blends. The lounges have multiple large screens (2 big lounges, 3 big screens each). Full kitchen for bringing in your own food and drink (state law won't let him provide it himself). During the winter, this is my home away from home. Great place to watch the local sports teams - great people and atmosphere. 1
Bulldog4 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 CityCigar emporium Vancouver BC excellent selection excellent staff their former owner is now the owner of havanahouse the offical distributor of cubans in canada so citycigar gets a lot of rare or hard to find stuff and always has the le's or reservas in stock
srbbones Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4QvmolLA5M This is the LCDH brick and mortar I want to go to. Look where the guy scans to enter the contest! La Bamba! 1
Ryan Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I'd love to visit Wishnu's shop in Singapore sometime. I've seen the pictures, it looks great. In Dublin, JJ Fox is the only shop I buy in. I know them all well so I can't really give an objective review. Great service though and there are some interesting things to be found there. In London, again Fox would be the shop I'd go to. They have my favourite smoking area of any of the London shops, though there are new ones opening up in some of the hotels..Good selection and there can be aged finds. Sautters in london is worth a look, small but nice little place. Ajay always has a welcome and some very nice stock. Laura in Dunhill is worth a visit, nice stuff to see in the Dunhill Humidor too. Gerard in Geneva is an interesting visit. If you want to see where people who have more money than you buy cigars, that's the place. There are one or two other B&Ms in Geneva that I prefer but they sell online as well as B&M. If anyone happens to be in the south of Spain, there is a place in Jerez, Cava de Paul, on Calle Paul, run by Esteban. Great little shop, nicely maintained humidor and I have found quite a bit of older stuff there over the years.. For Havana, I won't go into all the details but this is the order I'd visit the better known shops from the point of view of stock they have that I want. Club Havana Habana Libre Melia Habana Conde de Villanueva 5 y 16 Melia Cohiba Commodoro Since Hamlet left RyJ, I don't bother visiting. From the point of view of having a cigar and a chat, the Partagas shop is great, if Hamlet has time. I've very rarely bought boxes there, just singles, but always worth a visit and the shop in Havana in which I always spend the most time. I find the 'VIP' room can sometimes be a little depressing, often there are people in there who like cigars but don't really like being in Cuba. Also there are no windows, you could be in Birmingham. The Prado, or the Malecon if it's not too windy are much nicer places for a cigar and a bottle of rum. 2
Ryan Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Dunhill Tobacco London (1A St James St... down the road from Davidoff and JJ Fox) Only two blokes in the shop, Tom and i forget the name of the older guy. Robert Emery?
Colt45 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 First that come to mind: CB Perkins - Canton MA Federal Cigar - Portsmouth NH
anacostiakat Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Of course I will nominate W. Curtis Drapers. Stores in downtown Washington DC, Bethesda MD and the Civil Cigar Lounge in Friendship Heights, DC. Great staff, great selection of NC's and the lounge is top shelf. 3
imangelo Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Village Cigar Company in Burlington, Canada. Amazing old school, 20's vibe with a couple barber chairs that the use for cuts with classic straight shaves. Amazing selection and also the best house blend cigar you'll ever try. Excellent selection and fantastic customer service.
Pilsner14 Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Zigarren in Calgary, AB, Canada. Top shelf. Great stuff.
